Vince Russo watched all six episodes of the Vince McMahon docuseries after it premiered on Netflix on September 25. The former WWE writer was left surprised by Mick Foley's omission from the show.
In January, McMahon resigned from WWE's parent company TKO after being accused of sexual misconduct by former employee Janel Grant. Foley recently said he is reserving judgment on the situation until both sides of the story have been told.
Reacting to the Mr. McMahon Netflix special, Russo said on his YouTube channel that The Undertaker should have featured more. He also addressed the absence of Foley and former WWE commentator Jim Ross:
"I don't think 'Taker got enough love and I'm surprised Mick was not a part of this documentary," Russo said. "I'm not surprised Jim Ross is not a part of the doc. I wasn't surprised about that. Obviously he's in AEW now. That doesn't surprise me. I'm surprised Mick wasn't in the doc." [28:29 – 28:57]
Vince Russo added that Mick Foley deserved to share his opinion on Vince McMahon given what he achieved in WWE in the 1990s:
"I thought I read somewhere that he was asked to be in the doc. I don't know, bro, but I was surprised. Mick was a huge part of the success of the Attitude Era and I am very, very, very surprised that he was not in the doc." [28:59 – 29:21]
McMahon initially had reservations about hiring Foley. The former WWE Chairman eventually became a fan of The Hardcore Legend's work and booked him to win the world title three times.
Vince Russo on Shane McMahon's role in the Vince McMahon docuseries
A running story throughout Mr. McMahon revolved around Shane McMahon trying to gain his father's respect.
Vince Russo believes Vince McMahon's son came across well in the docuseries and simply wanted to make his father proud:
"Shane does come along as a very sympathetic figure, and rightfully so, bro. If you guys follow me and you follow my shows, you know for years I've been saying, to this day, bro, Shane is still trying to prove himself to his dad. To this day!" [29:24 – 29:44]
Russo also addressed why the docuseries failed to mention his input as WWE's head writer during the Attitude Era in the late 1990s.
