Perhaps LA Knight's best night of his WWE career happened at SummerSlam inside Cleveland Browns Stadium on August 3. Recently, Hall of Famer Kevin Nash revealed that he had a backstage conversation with The Megastar before he went out to the ring and won the United States Championship from Logan Paul.
Nash touched upon a bevy of topics in the latest episode of his podcast, Kliq This. He elaborated on his encounter with The Megastar at The Biggest Party of The Summer:
"I said, 'So, you finally getting to f***ing go over tonight?'" Nash said. "And he goes, 'Something like that.' And then we talked and ... because he's working with Logan Paul, I just asked him how it was to work with Paul. You know, 'Is he a natural? Is he paint-by-numbers?'"
The 65-year-old did not reveal what Knight told him about the latter's opponent, though, as he felt it was not his place to talk about the 41-year-old's opinion on the social media influencer publicly.
However, he added that there was no animosity between them despite his controversial comments on The Megastar in the past year, which evoked the ire of fans:
"Nobody is f***ing trying to hurt anybody in this business. I wasn't trying to take food off his table," Nash continued. "I want that company to f***ing excel." [H/T: WrestlingInc.]
On the SmackDown following WWE SummerSlam, Santos Escobar emerged as the new number-one contender to the United States Champion.
Santos Escobar fires shots at LA Knight following WWE SmackDown
After defeating Andrade, Santos Escobar was caught backstage by WWE correspondent Byron Saxton for an interview on SmackDown LowDown.
Escobar was critical of LA Knight, stating that the latter has no culture while also adding about heritage in wrestling. He also claimed that Knight does not have a family like him, referring to his faction Legado Del Fantasma. The 40-year-old concluded by assuring that he will steal the belt from The Megastar:
"You see him [LA Knight] saying he's got this, that, and the other. Look at me, I truly deserve that opportunity. I should be the United States Champion, I will be the US Champion, why? Because I have tradition, heritage, culture, family, of which he has none. And I will become the new United States Champion. Like I said, with everybody saying, Es-Co-Bar Si."
LA Knight has already scored a win over Santos Escobar ahead of SummerSlam. But this time things are different as the United States Championship is on the line. Escobar himself has not won a belt on WWE's main roster thus far.
