Ted DiBiase Sr. worked alongside Virgil on WWE television between 1987 and 1991. In an exclusive interview, The Million Dollar Man shed light on what the person behind the Virgil character was like in real life.
Virgil, real name Michael Jones, passed away on February 28, 2024, at the age of 72. The WWE legend was best known for performing as DiBiase Sr.'s bodyguard. The two were also involved in a memorable feud in 1991.
DiBiase Sr. recently spoke to Sportskeeda Wrestling Senior Editor Bill Apter and host Dr. Chris Featherstone about Virgil's career. Asked to explain what he was really like, the 2010 WWE Hall of Famer praised his former co-worker as a human being:
"That's a hard explanation," DiBiase Sr. said. "Virgil was a good guy. He wasn't a really gifted wrestler. I mean, I had one match with him, and had he had a better understanding of the psychology of wrestling we could have done a lot more, but we got the best out of what we had when he got tired of taking my s**t. But, aside from that, on the road and what have you, he was a good guy and I miss him." [5:00 – 5:40]

Ted DiBiase Sr. explains his WWE finisher
WWE Hall of Famer Sgt. Slaughter used the Cobra Clutch to defeat opponents throughout his legendary career. Ted DiBiase Sr. performed the same submission, but his move was called the Million Dollar Dream.
Asked to provide an insight into the difference between the two, DiBiase Sr. gave a simple answer:
"Actually, there's no difference. It's just a different name. I wasn't gonna call it the Cobra Clutch. If it's gonna be mine, it's gonna be the Million Dollar Dream." [2:42 – 2:56]
DiBiase Sr. won several titles during his wrestling career, including the WWE Tag Team Championship three times with IRS. He was also a two-time holder of his custom title, the Million Dollar Championship.
