Sami Zayn has cemented his status as one of WWE's most popular babyfaces over the last few years. Diamond Dallas Page (DDP), another beloved wrestling star, recently gave his take on people comparing Zayn to him.

In the 1990s, DDP worked his way up from being a manager to the WCW World Heavyweight Champion. Like the WWE Hall of Famer, Zayn has built a large fanbase thanks to his fighting spirit and genuine connection with the audience.

DDP spoke about his path to the top during an appearance on Monte and The Pharaoh. While he does not think any modern-day wrestlers will repeat his unique journey, the WCW legend agreed that he sees himself in Zayn:

"No one will ever repeat that," DDP said. "It's just impossible. It's impossible. But I do liken what happened in my career, and I love what's happening in the last year or two, with Sami Zayn. [Former WCW President] Eric Bischoff was on 83 Weeks and said, 'I liken this push that's happening from the people for Sami, I liken it to watching what happened with Diamond Dallas Page.' The people's guy, you know?" [From 1:08:59 – 1:09:40]

DDP was 43 years old when he won the WCW World Heavyweight Championship for the first time. Zayn, 40, has held the Intercontinental Championship four times but he has not yet won a WWE world title.

DDP explains why WWE fans love Sami Zayn

On April 6, Sami Zayn defeated Gunther at WrestleMania XL to end The Ring General's record-setting 666-day Intercontinental Championship reign. The former honorary Bloodline member later lost the title to Bron Breakker at SummerSlam on August 3.

DDP thinks Zayn's never-say-die attitude and self-belief endear him to WWE fans:

"People, they love Sami. He ain't the biggest guy, he ain't the strongest guy, but, man, that cat can work his a** off. You gravitate towards him because of his belief in himself." [From 01:09:41 – 01:09:58]

DDP also named LA Knight as another WWE star whose career has taken off in his early 40s. Knight recently dethroned Logan Paul to win the United States Championship at the age of 41.
