As Triple H's WWE marches forward towards the Royal Rumble, almost every superstar wants to stand out from the pack. Regarding Carmelo Hayes, Bill Apter wasn't too worried about the former NXT Champion's future.
Hayes received a much-deserved call-up to the main roster last year during the WWE Draft and faced Cody Rhodes in his first match on SmackDown. Melo has been consistently featured ever since, engaging in a highly acclaimed series of matches against Andrade.
In recent times, Carmelo Hayes hasn't been wholly lucky in the wins department and has suffered multiple losses to top names as a heel, while only picking up the occasional victories.
Despite the booking, Bill Apter felt that WWE was biding its time and trying to find the ideal spot for the 30-year-old star:

"I think they are looking for a spot where he fits in perfectly and they are going to find it because he is a very good talent," said the legendary journalist. [From 14:51 to 15:00]

Bill Apter found it fascinating that Carmelo Hayes is seemingly involved in multiple angles and isn't necessarily engaged in one feud. His constant presence on the blue brand has helped the crowd get intrigued by his work even if he might not be winning all the time inside the ring.
Apter explained:
"It's amazing. Melo is getting involved in so many different facets with so many different guys, you wonder what they are going to do with him, where it's winding up, and where this is going? Because they had him lose so many times yet he is still proving to be very intriguing to the audience. They are going, 'What's with this guy? Where is he going?" [From 14:20 to 14:42]
Carmelo Hayes was amongst NXT's top names during his time in the brand and since his arrival on WWE SmackDown, he has come across as a promising prospect working his way towards the main event scene.
