WWE made an unfortunate announcement regarding Zelina Vega ahead of tonight's episode of SmackDown. This week's edition of the blue brand will air live from the Amalie Arena in Tampa, Florida.
There is a number one contender's tournament underway on WWE Speed. Latino World Order's Zelina Vega was scheduled to battle Natalya in the quarterfinals today, but the match never occurred. Corey Graves announced during the broadcast that Vega had suffered an injury and would be replaced by B-Fab in the tournament. Natalya went on to defeat B-Fab to advance.
The 33-year-old also competed in the Women's Intercontinental Championship tournament on WWE RAW but was eliminated in the first round. Lyra Valkyria defeated Ivy Nile and the veteran in a Triple Threat match to advance in the tournament on the December 19 edition of the red brand. Vega is a three-time Women's Tag Team Champion but has never captured a singles title during her time in the company.
WWE star Zelina Vega wants to win title to honor her father
RAW star Zelina Vega recently shared that she was hoping to capture a major title during her professional wrestling career to honor her father, who tragically passed away during the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001.
Speaking on Busted Open Radio, Vega said she believed she would become a champion someday. The inaugural Queen's Crown winner added that she wanted to win the title to honor her father and noted that there was nothing else that she could do but continue to push forward.
"I genuinely believe that it has to [happen]. There's no reason that it shouldn't. There's just so much you can ignore the people and what they want. I feel like if this continues that way, a decision's gonna have to be forced at some point. So it's just on me to keep doing what I'm doing because there's nothing else I can do. I'm gonna do it for him," she said. [H/T: USA Network]
Zelina Vega has battled for a singles title several times throughout her career but has come up short so far. It will be interesting to see what WWE has planned for her in the weeks ahead on RAW.
