WWE NXT Results: Oba Femi defeats 27-year-old star ahead of major championship match

Oba Femi collided with Axiom in a singles match on the latest episode of WWE NXT. This was the opening match of the show.

The Ruler is set to challenge Trick Williams for the coveted NXT Championship at New Year's Evil. He earned the right to challenge for the title after winning the Iron Survivor Challenge at NXT Deadline. Meanwhile, Axiom wrestled in the opening match even though he and Nathan Frazer were set to defend their tag team titles on the same show.

During the match, Axiom hit Oba Femi with a few kicks and chopped him in the corner. The Nigerian star smacked his opponent in the back when the latter tried to go for a springboard. Femi hit a big chop in the corner and Axiom nailed him with a missile dropkick.

Axiom hit the former North American Champion with a few kicks but ran into a clothesline, which turned him inside out. Axiom tried to lock Oba in an armbar but the latter overpowered him and hit a series of chops in the corner. Axiom pulled out a few kicks and a superkick to take the big man down.

He performed a missile dropkick and tried to hit the Golden Ratio but Oba caught him and tossed him to the mat. Oba Femi then hit his finisher and won the match via pinfall.
