Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes has a massive task at hand before his triumphant year draws to a close. He has to defend his belt against Kevin Owens at Saturday Night's Main Event on December 14.

WWE is seemingly attempting to resurrect the classic show, so something significant happening on it is not out of the realm of possibility. The Prizefighter has not won a world title in World Wrestling Entertainment since 2016, despite being the company's go-to guy for several high-profile situations. WWE analyst Sam Roberts feels that Owens can end The American Nightmare's reign this Saturday.

On his Notsam Wrestling podcast, Roberts pointed to major programs that WWE Creative can book in the wake of The Canadian Dream's victory. Although the analyst thinks it is less likely, as is the belief of a large section of the viewers, Kevin Owens has several potential challengers with deep storyline possibilities, such as Sami Zayn and Randy Orton:

"If Kevin Owens still has history with Sami Zayn, Kevin Owens vs. Sami Zayn as the WWE Championship match. We never got the Kevin Owens-Randy Orton match. We got the match being thrown out at Crown Jewel, and then we had Randy Orton eating a piledriver. And that's when Cody finally stepped in."

Sam Roberts also pointed out the Canadian wrestler's real-life issues with CM Punk, which could be a captivating on-screen story for the Undisputed WWE Championship:

"Oh yeah, and he's got a built-in rivalry with CM Punk. That's four opponents that I can tell you for Kevin Owens as WWE Champion right now." [From 39:18 to 40:10]

In the past, Owens has expressed a desire to hoist the top prize of World Wrestling Entertainment again at some point. Will this Saturday be the night he finally gets to realize the dream?

Kevin Owens explains why a second run with the WWE Title matters to him

The conflict Owens has with The American Nightmare stems from the latter's decision to team up with Roman Reigns at Bad Blood to take down The Bloodline, a group he has had major issues with in the past. During an interview with the Chronicle four years ago, when he was feuding with The Tribal Chief and family, The Canadian Dream articulated why winning WWE's biggest accolade matters so much to him:

"It matters. For me, because my first Universal title run I really didn't enjoy it as much as I should have. When I was in the middle of it I would always think "ah, we could've done this differently and we should have done that differently," and then it was over. Looking back, obviously, a few months removed or even a year, it took me a while to realize that I really didn't enjoy any of it," Owens said.

Cody Rhodes won the Undisputed WWE Championship from Roman Reigns at WrestleMania XL. He has fended off every opponent in his way, from AJ Styles and Logan Paul to The Bloodline's Solo Sikoa and Kevin Owens himself. Could the second time be a charm for The Prizefighter?

Saturday Night's Main Event will air live from the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum on Long Island, New York, on December 14!
