CM Punk is currently occupied with his heated feud with Drew McIntyre on WWE RAW. However, a former host believes the company planted a seed for a future rivalry between The Best in the World and another top superstar on the red brand.

The superstar in question is Gunther. Last Monday on RAW, The Ring General appeared in a video package ahead of his World Heavyweight Championship match against Damian Priest at SummerSlam. In the video, he dubbed CM Punk an "afterthought."

On his The Wrestling Matt podcast, former RAW Talk host Matt Camp claimed that the company attempted to lay the foundation for a future program between the King of the Ring and The Best in the World through the video package.

Camp pointed out that although the two top WWE Superstars will not clash soon, a square-off between them will eventually happen.

"I liked in the video package with Gunther talking about other champions, he called CM Punk an afterthought. We're not going to Punk and Gunther yet. But at some point, that will happen. And that's just [a] little nugget, that little kernel, that seed, let's just throw it out there. You can come back to that," he said. [42:04 - 42:32]

Will Gunther become World Heavyweight Champion at WWE SummerSlam?

While CM Punk will go head-to-head against Drew McIntyre at SummerSlam, Gunther will attempt to win his first World Championship at The Biggest Party of the Summer.

On his Cheap Heat podcast, former 24/7 Champion Peter Rosenberg predicted that The Ring General would walk out of SummerSlam with the title. He added that winning the 2024 King of the Ring Tournament was a stepping stone for Gunther.

"I go back to what my original point was. It's bad news for Damian Priest because Gunther is going to win that match. Winning King of the Ring was not the top of the mountain for Gunther at this time," he said.

Last Monday on RAW, Gunther and Damian Priest brawled before being separated by WWE officials and security. It would be interesting to see which of the two superstars will come out on top in Cleveland.
