The Monday Night RAW after Survivor Series was predictably action-packed as WWE built towards Saturday Night's Main Event, where Finn Balor will challenge Gunther. Vince Russo pointed out a big problem with the decision, which could impact the tag team division.
Finn Balor is currently one-half of the World Tag Team Champions alongside JD McDonagh, but Vince Russo felt the titleholders hadn't defended the belt much over the past six months. As seen at Survivor Series, Balor interfered in the World Heavyweight Championship match and attacked Damian Priest, helping Gunther retain his belt. This week on RAW, Balor targeted the champion himself with a brutal attack after Gunther defeated Dominik Mysterio.
WWE confirmed that Balor would take on the Ring General at Saturday Night's Main Event, but Vince Russo couldn't understand the logic behind the booking at the expense of ignoring the tag team championship.
Speaking on Legion of RAW, Russo explained:
A former WWE writer just went after JBL for his comments HERE
"Chris, the tag champs have defended the belts twice in six months. Come on, guys, like seriously. I'm not being a hard 'you know what,' but this stuff is ridiculous. And then, on tonight's show, the guy who defended the tag titles twice in the past six months now has a shot against Gunther? Come on, guys! Don't sit there and tell me this is brilliant booking, it's not!" [From 36:00 onwards]
Vince Russo opined that WWE could have booked a title change and put the belts on The Viking Raiders, given the current storylines that other tag teams are involved in on TV.
"And Chris, if you know where you're going, okay, New Day's turning heel, okay, we're going to go with Finn and Gunther at Saturday Night's [Main Event], okay. Well, then, The Viking Raiders should have won the belts," he added. [37:14 - 38:00]
Finn Balor will have the chance to add another title to his resume at Saturday Night's Main Event, but as Vince Russo noted, the WWE Universe would also want to see developments regarding the World Tag Team Championship moving forward.
