WWE offered another eventful episode of SmackDown, and unfortunately for one star, Blair Davenport, she is still looking for her first win on the main roster. Dutch Mantell noted that the new SmackDown star looks green, which could be why she isn't booked to win yet.
Davenport was called up to SmackDown during the 2024 Draft and has since only lost on the blue brand. She took on Naomi this week, and while Dutch Mantell initially expected Davenport to pick her first victory, he could see why WWE chose otherwise.
While speaking on Sportskeeda Wrestling's Smack Talk, Dutch Mantell said Blair Davenport looked "green and hesitant" during her match, which Naomi seemingly carried.
Mantell felt that even WWE officials might have seen Blair's shortcomings in the ring and believed it wasn't the time yet for her to go over a big name like Naomi.
Dutch explained:
"She looked very, very green and hesitant. And I think Naomi carried her most of the match, and I think most of the people who've watched wrestling for a while think there is something just a little bit off about the Davenport girl. And she lost, which actually surprised me. I thought this would be a time to maybe put her over, but I can see why they did it. You're not going to kill putting anybody over anybody. The thing in the back was so telegraphed it didn't really work." [39:40 -40:24]
Dutch Mantell pointed out that Blair Davenport had a unique look and background, which gave WWE a reason to stay invested in her.
Mantell was ready to be patient with Blair's WWE run and noted that the company was still giving her something to do, which was a good sign.
"But at least they gave her something to do, so she was a work in progress. She was not ready to go to the main event, but I didn't even know she was from New Zealand. She is brand new to me. She has a different look to her, and we'll see what she does." [40:34 onwards]
It's still early days, but Blair Davenport would be desperate to get on the winner's column as soon as possible on SmackDown.
