WWE star Bayley talks about the Damage CTRL storyline in the build up to WrestleMania 40

WWE star Bayley played a pivotal role in one of the major storylines leading up to WrestleMania 40. After winning the 2024 Women's Royal Rumble match, it seemed that The Role Model was focused on challenging Rhea Ripley for the Women's World Championship.

However, she went on to challenge IYO SKY for the WWE Women's Championship instead after being betrayed by Damage CTRL. In one of the best matches of WrestleMania 40, Bayley defeated her former stablemate to become the new champion.

During a recent interview with the Orlando Sentinel, Bayley talked about how such stories rarely come around. The Role Model said that the time and effort invested in the Damage CTRL storyline made her clash with IYO SKY one of the most anticipated matches of WrestleMania 40.

“Those don’t come around very often — those stories and those championship runs. To be a part of a story where someone wins the Royal Rumble, now you have a guaranteed title match at WrestleMania that can be anticipated and built upon. Because of the time we had put into Damage CTRL, after the breakup, this match [with IYO Sky] was one of the most anticipated matches at WrestleMania, period," Bayley said.

Bayley thanked the WWE fans for their support

After being kicked out of The Damage CTRL, Bayley became one of the biggest babyfaces. Fans were rallying behind her during her feud with IYO SKY.

In the same interview, The Role Model described the four months between the Royal Rumble and WrestleMania as special. She thanked the fans for their unwavering support during that time.

"We got lots of TV time for stories to be told the right way. It just felt really special for those four months [from Royal Rumble to WrestleMania] and I’m grateful that the fans were in the right place to cheer for me,” she said. [H/T Orlando Sentinel]

Last month, Bayley and SKY briefly reunited as they teamed up during the Women's WarGames match at Survivor Series. It remains to be seen what WWE has planned for The Role Model moving forward.
