WWE continues to undergo massive changes under Triple H, with the futures of several veteran talents, including Natalya, in doubt. Vince Russo discussed her time in the company and believed she didn't get the respect she deserved.
There has been much talk about Natalya's status in recent weeks, as rumors suggest that her WWE deal will soon expire. The former Women's Champion has not made any long-term commitments as of this writing and seems to be assessing her options.
While Vince Russo had an ideal role in mind for Natalya in AEW, he felt she wasn't treated properly in WWE. The daughter of Jim Neidhart has been with the promotion since 2007 and has witnessed the much-needed women's wrestling evolution, in which she played a crucial role.
When asked why she had been booked inconsistently, Vince Russo said Natalya herself might have never stood up to the officials. The former writer would have liked the 42-year-old star to remind the company about her legacy.
Here's an excerpt from Sportskeeda Wrestling's latest Writing with Russo episode:
"Because she allows herself to [be booked poorly], she doesn't stand up for herself. She doesn't remind them who she is and what her legacy is. Natalya should not be 'Yes sir, no sir.' She is royalty in the business. She has paid her dues; she has been around for a very, very long time. She deserves that respect." [4:50 - 5:10]
Former WWE head writer Vince Russo feels many talents don't understand booking
For a pro wrestling company with a very deep roster, some may miss out on regular television opportunities. Over the years, WWE has also been called out for its "50-50 booking," which is when superstars aren't continuously given clean victories to build momentum.
Vince Russo said talents themselves aren't always aware of the intricacies of how their characters are written and presented on TV, which leads them to lose interest in their direction.
"Absolutely. Yeah, bro, because they don't understand booking, and if you don't understand the booking, bro, you're not going to be into it. You're just not going to be into it, and I think that's the case with a lot of talent." [From 5:15 onwards]
Natalya is one of the most respected names in the pro wrestling business. Regardless of how she has been booked thus far, the WWE veteran will undoubtedly garner a lot of attention if she enters free agency.
