WWE star hints at potential match against John Cena three years in the making

There may not be a bigger marquee name than John Cena, who represents WWE best. During his early run in the main event scene, there was a running gag that he was the ultimate golden shovel, which meant that he buries younger stars from rising to the top. However, he proved naysayers wrong later on in his career.

By the time the global pandemic hit in 2020, Cena's time under the sun had quietly dwindled down, only making sporadic appearances for the Stamford-based promotion. The same year, Karrion Kross made his television debut on WWE NXT in April.

During a recent sit-down interview with Chris Van Vliet on INSIGHT, Karrion Kross was asked about John Cena. The former NXT Champion recalled when Cena dropped a picture of Kross on his social media with no context and how the viewers were very excited at a potential match between the two.

"People went crazy over it," Kross on John Cena's post of him on Instagram. "Unfortunately, some things happened. From that point to where we are now, where I'm no longer with the company and now I'm back. He's here as well. Just thought I'd put it out there and see how people still felt about it," Kross said. Karrion Kross retorted that a match between him and John Cena is one that people would want to see. Kross also added that Cena told him that it was, in fact, the 16-time World Champion himself who posted the picture and not his media team.

John Cena is reportedly slated to wrestle at WWE Crown Jewel

The GOAT self-admittedly was a little shaken after his match against Austin Theory earlier this year at The Show of Shows. He disclosed that what viewers saw there is what he's got now. Most recently, he stepped into the ring for a tag match alongside LA Knight at WWE Fastlane.

Ringside News has reported that John Cena will wrestle in Saudi Arabia. While his opponent isn't clear as of this writing, speculation online is that he will challenge Roman Reigns to a title match. He was also seen on WWE NXT this past Tuesday night. During the show, he had an altercation with Solo Sikoa.
