Jey Uso got a huge ovation from the crowd in Lyon, France, ahead of his battle against World Heavyweight Champion Damian Priest at WWE Backlash. Although Main Event Jey was unable to pick up the win, he came back from Lyon with great memories.

Jey was humbled by the fireflies in the crowd, which are basically fans using their phone flashlights during the entrance as the bright lights dim. It seemed very reminiscent of late WWE Superstar Bray Wyatt's entrance.

While talking about keeping Wyatt's 'fireflies alive' on the Battleground Podcast, Jey revealed that JoJo Offerman, Bray Wyatt's widow, texted him after Backlash France. Uso added that her validation was all he needed and that he would try to keep the former's memory alive, in his own way.

"The most I was validated was, I mean, his wife, JoJo, Bray Wyatt's wife, had texted me and just said how much she was emotional watching. She saw clips of it on YouTube and that let me know right there, 'All aright, I'm going to keep it.' I hope it sticks with me. I never asked for it. I think they did it and I want to keep it with me now," said Jey Uso. [From 3:39 to 4:08]

Bray Wyatt passed away shockingly in the summer of 2023. He had a close relationship with the WWE Universe, similar to what Jey Uso is experiencing today. For both of them, it had been an organic rise into the main event scene.

Jey Uso will face the record-setting former WWE Intercontinental Champion in the King of the Ring semifinal

On Monday Night RAW this week, Jey Uso and Gunther defeated Ilja Dragunov and Kofi Kingston, respectively in their King of the Ring matches.

Although Dragunov's elimination from the KOTR Tournament was met with a mixed response, the former NXT Champion clarified post-match that there is no shame in falling to Main Event Jey.

In the closing moments of WWE RAW, Uso and The Ring General had a staredown. The two will meet next week in the semifinal of the King of the Ring Tournament.

The two stars faced off earlier this year, when Gunther defended the WWE Intercontinental Championship against Jey Uso in February. Although the latter nearly had the match won, his twin brother Jimmy Uso intervened and The Ring General narrowly escaped defeat at the hands of Jey.
