Raquel Rodriguez was very emotional talking about the hardest thing she endured in life. Rodriguez explained being diagnosed with Mast Cell Activation Syndrome that caused her skin to flare up, causing her to take a hiatus in March.
The former NXT Women's Champion first missed time in late 2023 before revealing in January that she was suffering from Mast Cell Activation Syndrome. It is a condition that attacks organs like the skin, causing itchiness and redness.
Speaking to Steven Muehlhausen of The Takedown on SI, Raquel Rodriguez opened up about her disease. She called it the hardest part of her life because it affected her everyday life and her career as a WWE Superstar. Her confidence went down because it affected her skin and face, which became red and swollen.
"It was definitely the hardest part of my life because it was like everything just crumbled at once. First, I'm getting a rash on my skin, so I'm looking in the mirror and I'm not recognizing who I'm seeing. And I'm going out in public because I'm still trying to wrestle, and I'm still trying to be a part of this company, but I can feel people looking at me, and my confidence was starting to wane on me. I was just not feeling good at all being in public areas or talking to people," Rodriguez said. [From 6:06 - 6:33]

Raquel Rodriguez has not recovered from Mast Cell Activation Syndrome but has managed to control it by following a strict regimen to lessen stress. Rodriguez returned at Bad Blood and aligned herself with Liv Morgan against Rhea Ripley. She even joined The Judgment Day.
Raquel Rodriguez opens up about flare-up at Elimination Chamber
In the same interview on The Takedown on SI, Raquel Rodriguez shared what happened at Elimination Chamber in Australia. Rodriguez thought that she had managed her disease, but it flared up during her flight to Perth. She had to go to a doctor to get steroid shots to manage the swelling, redness, and itchiness.
"I had to go see a doctor. I had to get a steroid shot just to help get me home, get the swelling down, so that I could get on a flight to come home. It helped me get through the match," Rodriguez said. [From 7:07 - 7:16 in the video above]
Rodriguez went back home to Texas after being granted some time off to fight off her disease. She received the support from her family, which she truly appreciated.
