Gunther is undoubtedly one of the strongest stars in WWE today. However, a Hall of Famer wants to see another name beat him by the end of this year itself.
The Ring General recently faced Damian Priest at Survivor Series, with the World Heavyweight Title on the line. While the two looked to be almost equally matched, an interference from Finn Balor tipped the scales and allowed the reigning champion to retain his title. It should be noted that Gunther was not pleased with the interference either, landing a high boot on Finn in the aftermath. This has snowballed into Balor and him being scheduled to fight at the upcoming Saturday Night's Main Event.
Speaking about the match on Sportskeeda's The Wrestling Time Machine hosted by Mac Davis, Teddy Long was asked if he thought Balor could win. In response, the legend hoped that WWE was not just wasting The Judgment Day member.
"Well we never know. Finn does a great job and he has been involved in a lot of good stuff so we just never know. I hope so, I hope they are not just wasting him, you know what I mean. I hope this kind of moves him up in the ranks." [5:35 onwards]

Another WWE veteran defended Gunther's match at Survivor Series
Gunther also received some criticism after Survivor Series, owing to the finish of his match against Damian Priest and the involvement of Finn Balor.
Speaking on Sportskeeda's Smack Talk, Dutch Mantell defended the WWE creative department and stated that they were throwing at the wall and were hoping it stuck, which unfortunately it did not.
"Always remember that when they do these angles, they're throwing at the wall and they're gonna see what sticks. So, while this thing may not have stuck, well, they'll clean the wall off and they'll throw something new at it the next time out, and we'll see what we get out of this. But Gunther I think is one of their future stars for a long time. Damian Priest too. I don't know how far Roman's [Roman Reigns] gonna go but I think they're building the infrastructure and they're having a record year already." [7:31 – 8:02]
As of now, only time will tell what Gunther plans to do next in WWE.
