WWE Superstars continued the historic chase for a new championship today and this time a heated rivalry served as a tournament match. Now an upcoming rematch has been confirmed and a fan-favorite has issued a warning to another top Superstar.
Naomi has moved one step closer to becoming the inaugural WWE Speed Women's Champion. The first-ever Speed women's tournament kicked off last week with IYO SKY defeating Lyra Valkyria. The opening round continued today with Naomi defeating her SmackDown rival Blair Davenport.
The Glow defeated The Top Gaijin by submission, with twenty-two seconds left of the three-minute match. Naomi vs. IYO will now take place in the semi-finals. The winner of that match will advance to the finals for the inaugural Speed Women's Champion.

The opening round on the bottom half of the bracket will kick off next Wednesday at 12pm ET on X, featuring Kairi Sane vs. Elektra Lopez. Candice LeRae vs. Piper Niven will take place on September 25. The WWE Speed semi-finals will feature Lopez or Sane vs. LeRae or Niven, with the winner advancing to the finals with Naomi or IYO.
Naomi issued a warning to The Genius Of The Sky following today's win over Davenport. The 15-year industry veteran is confident about becoming champion:
"Well, I won my first match in the first round tonight. Next stop: Ms. IYO SKY. Girl, ain't nobody scared of you... you better be ready for this glow. I am well on my way to becoming the first WWE Speed Women's Champion," Naomi said.
Speed will mark the third singles match between Naomi and IYO. The Damage CTRL member won their first match on SmackDown back in March, then won their dark match at SmackDown in July.
Men's WWE Speed Championship uncertainty
Andrade is the current WWE Speed Champion. He defeated inaugural champion Ricochet back in June as The One And Only was leaving the company for AEW.
El Idolo is currently focused on SmackDown competition. Since dethroning Ricochet, he has retained the Speed Championship over Xavier Woods, Baron Corbin, and Pete Dunne. The win over Dunne was the final Speed episode before the women's tournament began two weeks ago. There's no clear word on what the future holds for the Speed men's division.
Andrade has been feuding with Carmelo Hayes on SmackDown. The series is currently tied at 2-2 and the tiebreaker will take place this Friday night.
