Seth Rollins recently returned to WWE RAW and instantly was booked in a World Heavyweight Championship contest against Damian Priest at Money in the Bank. He is one of the company's featured stars of the new era of athletes who have been part of some iconic moments in the last decade; some worst, too.
One such moment happened in late 2022 when a rare misfire occurred under Triple H's regime. Austin Theory was in possession of the Money in the Bank briefcase at the time and he decided to cash it in on then-United States Champion Seth Rollins. This booking decision was slammed unanimously and was made even worse for Theory as he wound up losing the match, only to win it a few weeks later.
With ample buzz surrounding the Money in the Bank event this Saturday night, the former United States Champion admitted that he regrets cashing in on Seth Rollins. He became the first—and the only—WWE Superstar to not use the contract on a world title.
WWE asked its roster what they would cash in the contract on if they could on anything and not just a championship belt, just a few days before the annual show.
"It would not be the United States Championship, all right?" Austin Theory responded.
While many fans look at Austin Theory's US Title reign as a low point in his career, the fact of the matter is that it was during this time he racked up some major wins over Seth Rollins, Bobby Lashley, and a WrestleMania victory over John Cena.
While conversing with Chris Van Vliet a few months ago, Cena opened up about the single promo segment he had with Theory ahead of WrestleMania 39. The 16-time World Champion believes that there is a lot of potential in the 26-year-old.
Austin Theory will defend the WWE Tag Team Championship on SmackDown
WWE SmackDown will air live from Scotiabank Arena in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, the same venue as Money in the Bank the following night. Austin Theory and Grayson Waller are booked for the blue brand's episode as they defend their belts against Tommaso Ciampa and Johnny Gargano.
"See you soon Canada🚀 #smackdown," Theory wrote on Instagram the other day.
This match is a long time coming for #DIY, who has scratched and clawed for the opportunity. Will they succeed in bringing down A-Town Down Under? Stay tuned with Sportskeeda Wrestling as updates will be posted once the show goes on air live.
