The Undertaker recently teased the possibility of returning to the ring four years after announcing his retirement. Vince Russo, WWE's former head writer, believes legends like The Deadman should be treated in the same way as veteran athletes.

In sports such as basketball and football, legendary players rarely return once their playing days are over. In wrestling, however, many iconic in-ring competitors lace up their boots again despite previously announcing their retirements.

Russo appeared on Sportskeeda Wrestling's Writing With Russo with host Dr. Chris Featherstone. Reacting to The Undertaker's remarks on Logan Paul's Impaulsive podcast about wanting one more match, Russo said WWE's higher-ups should shoot down the idea:

"I am sure, without a shadow of a doubt, that every professional athlete that retires has that same dopamine. The only problem is, bro, they don't attempt to come back because they would never be allowed to. They would be told, in the nicest way, 'There isn't a roster spot for you.' Whatever. They would not be allowed to come back at 45, 46 years old." [8:35 – 9:02]

Vince Russo on The Undertaker's logic behind returning

While some wrestlers return to the ring for financial reasons, that is not the case for The Undertaker. The 59-year-old disliked the fact he did not receive a farewell bout in front of fans. Instead, his career ended with a cinematic Boneyard match against AJ Styles at WrestleMania 36.

Although money is not on The Phenom's mind, Vince Russo believes the potential income would be difficult to refuse:

"In wrestling, nobody says no to these guys. That's exactly what it is. And think about it, bro, this isn't the reason why, because he's a multi-millionaire a hundred times over, but, I mean, my God, bro, if 'Taker wants five million dollars he just has to tell Triple H, 'I wanna get in the ring for another 10-minute match.' That's unbelievable to me, bro!" [9:02 – 9:26]

On April 7, The Undertaker attacked The Rock at WrestleMania XL during the Cody Rhodes vs. Roman Reigns main event. He has not been involved in a WWE storyline since that surprise appearance.
