WWE CCO Triple H tied the knot with former chairwoman Stephanie McMahon 21 years ago. Meanwhile, a WWE veteran recently claimed the marriage had a negative effect on the McMahon family.
The Game and The Billion Dollar Princess' love affair began while they worked together on a storyline in late 1999 and early 2000. While they became an on-screen couple, they also started dating in real life. Although they split a few times for different reasons, including Vince McMahon not being ok with their relationship, Triple H and Stephanie eventually got back together and ended up starting a family.
In a recent interview on Cafe de Rene, former Interim RAW General Manager Jonathan Coachman talked about Triple H and Stephanie's marriage, pointing out that Shane McMahon might have been unhappy about it. The Coach also claimed the marriage segregated the McMahon family:
"And, again, I don't know how Shane feels about it but I'm saying that I've always felt that, and a lot of people backstage, I mean everybody talked about it because it was a thing. They were in a storyline and then it turned into a real-life love affair and they're still together to this day, so good for them. But I think that really segregated the McMahon family because Vince had to deal with it because Triple H was one of the biggest stars he had at the time and ultimately, you know, you've seen it all play out over the last 20 years," he said. What did Shane McMahon say about his sister's relationship with WWE's CCO?
In an interview with WWE Hall of Famer Mick Foley on the Tell All podcast several years ago, Shane McMahon addressed the rumors suggesting he was unhappy with his sister's relationship with Triple H.
Shane O'Mac disclosed that the one thing that did not sit well with him was that Stephanie and The Game kept their romance from him for a while:
"At first it was... as long as they're gonna be happy that's all I really care about. You know, it was more old school back in the day, especially the boss' daughter, you don't ever date a talent at that point, because there was separation. At that time it was church and state, or office and the boys, if you will. So there's a lot of old school stuff in there. The thing that didn't sit well with me is that it was kept from me for a while, so that didn't feel good," he said.
In his interview with Cafe de Rene, Jonathan Coachman also discussed the possibility of Shane McMahon starting a new wrestling company with the help of his father after leaving WWE. It would be interesting to see if that would happen.
