WWE Saturday Night's Main Event saw Cody Rhodes retain his title against Kevin Owens. However, The American Nightmare was brutally attacked by The Prizefighter after the show went off the air. Footage from the assault went viral on social media as well.

Speaking on a recent edition of BroDown on Backstage Pass, Vince Russo questioned the creative leadership (Triple H) for putting the cliffhanger on social media instead of the show, noting the company should've aired the cliffhanger as part of WWE Saturday Night's Main Event.

"They actually did end with a cliffhanger but the problem was...they didn't put it on the air. And there are people online actually trying to defend that. You're on prime time NBC; you know you're gonna get a lot of first time viewers, you want to end with a cliffhanger."

He continued:

Former WWE writer buries Judgment Day HERE

"The whole idea is to bring those people back. So you've the aftermath that you put on social media...and people actually trying to defend that to me. And here we are a week later and I still don't understand their logic to that." [From 04:20 onwards]

Elsewhere on the podcast, Russo provided his reason as to why the shoving contest between Kevin Owens and Triple H from WWE Saturday Night's Main Event didn't make it to SmackDown this week. For those unaware, The Game and KO got into a bit of tense confrontation after the assault on Rhodes.

"We know they are writing for social media. We know who they are writing for. And, immediately, everybody started talking about a match between Kevin Owens and Triple H. That's why they didn't do it. That's why they didn't show any of that any more." [From 16:45 onwards]

The company issued a statement after Owens stole the Winged Eagle Championship from Rhodes at WWE Saturday Night's Main Event. It remains to be see how this storyline plays out as we near the end of 2024.
