What's the story?
During today's NJPW press conference, New Japan Pro Wrestling Chairman Naoki Sugabayashi announced that the mega clash between Kenny Omega and Chris Jericho at Wrestle Kingdom 12 will now be a No Disqualification match.
In case you didn't know...
Current IWGP US Heavyweight Champion and Bullet Club leader, Kenny Omega is all set to go toe-to-toe with former 9-time WWE Intercontinental Champion Chris Jericho at next year's Wrestle Kingdom 12 show at the Tokyo Dome.
Jericho, who made his return to NJPW earlier this year, at the Power Struggle event confronted Kenny Omega and challenged "The Cleaner" to a match at Wrestle Kingdom 12 with the IWGP US Championship on the line.
The heart of the matter
Earlier today, during a press conference it was announced by NJPW Chairman Naoki Sugabayashi that the Alpha-Omega match at Wrestle Kingdom 12 will now have an added stipulation to it, as both Jericho and Omega are all set to compete in a No Disqualification match at the Tokyo Dome.
It was announced by Sugabayashi that both Jericho and Omega have requested the NJPW management to add the No Disqualification stipulation to their Tokyo Dome match, following their recent brawl at the World Tag League final and also at a recent press conference.
Additionally, it was added by Sugabayashi that the match between Cody Rhodes and Kota Ibushi will now be a special singles match, due to "The American Nightmare" losing his Ring of Honor World Championship to Dalton Castle earlier in the week. Rhodes was originally scheduled to defend the belt against Ibushi at the Dome.
What's next?
Both Omega and Jericho will now wait for January 4, 2018, as the two Winnipeg natives are set to collide at the Wrestle Kingdom 12 co-main event with the IWGP US Heavyweight Championship on the line.
"The Cleaner" will look to solidify his place as the IWGP US Champion by defeating one of the all-time greats in Chris Jericho and this will also be Omega's first Wrestle Kingdom win since 2015 if he manages to defeat "The Ayatollah of Rock 'n' Rolla."
