What’s the story?
During the latest edition of The Wrestling Observer Newsletter, respected Pro Wrestling journalist Dave Meltzer reported the probable date for a potential match between Bullet Club members Kenny Omega and Cody Rhodes.
In case you didn’t know…
The internal conflicts between Kenny Omega and Cody Rhodes date way back to the 2017 NJPW Dominion event, when Kenny Omega faced off against IWGP Heavyweight Champion Kazuchika Okada in the rematch from Wrestle Kingdom 11. The two men also had an intense backstage interaction during last year’s G1 Specials in the US, following Cody’s defeat to Okada in the IWGP Heavyweight Title match.
However, during this year’s New Year’s Dash event on the 5th of January, things once again got bitter between Kenny and Cody after Cody along with a few other Bullet Club members proceeded to brutally assault Kenny Omega’s former tag team partner Kota Ibushi, only for Omega to intervene and make the save.
This eventually led to another argument between The American Nightmare and The Cleaner as Omega then decided to put Cody in his place by cementing his position as the leader of the Bullet Club.
The heart of the matter
According to Dave Meltzer, the current plan is for Kenny Omega and Cody Rhodes to face off against each other in a singles match later this year at ROH’s Supercard of Honor XII at the Lakefront Arena in New Orleans, on the 7th of April.
As noted previously, Ring of Honor has already announced last year that Kenny Omega will indeed be a part of this year’s Supercard of Honor show and as expected, former ROH World Champion Cody will also be booked for the show at the Lakefront Arena.
However, The Observer has also claimed there could be a change in plans and the match between Omega and Cody could be saved for Cody Rhodes’ upcoming 10,000 seat event “All In” which goes down on September 1st, 2018.
What’s next?
However, Kenny Omega’s next target is to once again successfully defend his IWGP US Title, this time against ‘Switchblade’ Jay White. The two men are scheduled to square off against each other later this month at the NJPW: New Beginning of Sapporo event.
Author’s Take
We have already previously seen internal Bullet Club conflicts between Kenny Omega and AJ Styles, and Kenny Omega and Adam Cole, however, the wrestling world never got a chance to witness either of those two matches happen but apparently it looks we might finally witness the mega clash between Cody Rhodes and Kenny Omega later this year and there is absolutely zero doubt that this match will be off the charts.
