If Cody Rhodes ever wanted inspiration, he did not have to look far away. His father, Dusty Rhodes, was one of the most iconic wrestlers to step foot inside the ring, and his elder brother, Dustin Rhodes, who currently wrestles in AEW, is also widely regarded as one of the best.
However, recently, The American Nightmare named three WCW Superstars he grew up idolizing. During an appearance on Insight with Chris Van Vliet, Rhodes spoke about how these three wrestlers impacted him in different ways. Here is a look at the three legends Rhodes grew up idolizing.
#3. Cody Rhodes idolized Macho Man Randy Savage
A WWE Hall of Famer isn't a John Cena fan. More details HERE
When asked about whom he idolized, Cody Rhodes said Macho Man Randy Savage was an easy pick. Rhodes mentioned that Macho Man came to WCW when Cody was 12 years old. He then narrated a story about an interaction he had with Macho Man backstage.
The American Nightmare said that Dusty Rhodes introduced him to Savage, after which the latter asked Cody how many push-ups he could do. After hearing Cody could do 10, Macho Man began doing the pushups with him. Rhodes concludes the story by saying he is a massive fan of the legend.
#2. The Great Muta
Another name Cody Rhodes said he grew up idolizing was The Great Muta. Rhodes also detailed an interaction he had with the Japanese legend. The Undisputed WWE Champion mentioned that Muta signed one of the boards found in Japan, which is used for autographs.
Rhodes further mentioned he signed that board and still had the hood on over his paint, and Muta came down on one knee. Rhodes said he could not believe this moment and said that he thought Muta was the coolest ever. The Great Muta is indeed an icon when it comes to professional wrestling and is very well respected.
#1. Sting
Recently retired AEW star Sting was another legend Cody Rhodes grew up idolizing. Rhodes mentioned he would be around the corner in locker rooms looking for a chance to interact with The Icon. The American Nightmare said that Sting was the franchise guy.
Rhodes also said that his father, Dusty Rhodes, shared a good relationship with Sting. He concluded by claiming that The Stinger was his idol when he was young and wanted to be a wrestler. Like Rhodes, Sting had an impact on several modern-day wrestlers, and the love he received upon retiring recently said it all.
