NWA star Ricky Starks recently opened up about his future goals in the industry. In an exclusive interview with the Eat Sleep Suplex Retweet podcast, Starks reflected on his work as an enhancement talent in WWE and also spoke about whether he could see himself returning to the promotion as his career progresses.
“I first went to WWE for the extra talent stuff back in 2012, and I remember thinking this was my opportunity to get a contract. I remember being there and the first few times it’s cool then it kind of wears off where you are like, no one really notices you. Then when I had a match on TV, that’s when I thought I could get a contract from this.
“When that didn’t happen, I had to go back and reassess my outlook because I had put all my eggs in that basket.
“Honestly man, nowadays that is my goal to get up there. I feel like if you’re a basketball player and you’ve been doing street basketball, obviously the NBA would be something you want to get towards. So WWE is something I want to get to eventually, but if wrestling has shown anything, there are different routes to get there.”

As of now, Starks is playing a starring role on NWA Power, having been singled out for the show by NWA owners David Lagana and Billy Corgan, as well as NWA World Champion Nick Aldis.
Broadcasting one hour a week on YouTube, Power makes use of different independent wrestlers on differing levels of contracts, with some having more exclusivity with the company than others.
When asked about his contract status with the company, Starks replied:
“So with NWA, I’m pretty exclusive to them. If anyone wants to bring me on, of course they’d have to go through NWA to get that. But that’s where I stand in terms of my contract with them. I can still do other shows but it justs needs to go through NWA.”
So far on NWA Power, several familiar faces have made their presence known, with former WWE stars such as Ken Anderson making appearances. One such star that Starks had praise for is the wrestler formerly known as Damien Sandow, Aron Stevens, who Starks has faced off with twice already on the show.
“I’ll tell you this, I think for as talented as he is, I really think he is an asset to NWA period. He brings in something different that not everyone has. You don’t see a lot of what he does on the Indies either. To me, I like watching him in NWA because he’s just so unique.”
