NXT-Charlotte and Sasha Banks show what awesome wrestling is

There have been reports that Triple H wants NXT be to WWE what WCW was to the World Wrestling Federation. That is quite a statement and quite an admirable ambition. The thing is this week NXT had just one major storyline playing throughout the night and the rest of the time was devoted to video packages or recaps as they would say. The one dominating storyline wasn’t the one with kevin Owens or Sami Zayn or Adrian Neville. It was the storyline between the reigning NXT Women’s Champion Charlotte and the most understated wrestler in NXT Sasha Banks.

No more going back to Lits VS Trish

One could get nostalgic of the days when Lita and Trish were given the opportunity and trusted to end Raw on their own accord. They didn’t need any male superstar presence to make their main event get the eyes. They did it depending on their own capability. The company placed the trust on them and till date no match and storyline has come close to the heights that these two reached with that match on that night in December 10 years ago.

And now we have NXT which has been the show for WWE for many weeks. Better than the main shows. Even if NXT featured one match as their draw, it was still miles better than what RAW turned out to be.

And it may as well be true to say that Triple h’s ambition of turning NXT equivalent to WWE may soon come true because as far as quality goes, it has already always surpassed the biggest show WWE has every week.

Why is that?

Because Sasha Banks and Charlotte delivered possibly one of the best matches of the year. Yes, why should boys have all the fun?

The original match between these two was at NXT Takeover: R Evolution. It was a great display of wrestling and the audience responded with chants like ‘This Is Awesome’ and ‘This is Wrestling’.

It could very much be considered their magnum opus but wait a minute, hold your horses.

Their match at NXT was the dominating part of the live taping. They were the main draw.

Let the Lita-Trish comparison begin.

They’re ready for the main roster but is the main roster ready for them?

It surely makes everyone believe that Charlotte is ready for the main roster. And it may make everyone believe that when Paige left, Charlotte took the reigns and now when Charlotte leaves, Sasha Banks may as well grab the reigns. It is possible and it is much deserved for Banks who remains one of the most understated wrestlers on the roster. She has been synonymous to doing things ‘like a boss’

The crowd was brought to its feet when Banks almost won the title and almost pinned the champion. That’s the kind of knee jerk reaction that makes matches and superstars. I no longer reserve the word superstar for the male performer.

Charlotte is more or less at the peak of her thriving wrestling career at NXT. It is time for her arrival to RAW. It might as well take place a night after Wrestlemania. It’ll be perfect.

She has carved her own niche in NXT despite having a father who is relevant to the history of this business. His presence in the match only shows how way ahead and beyond Charlotte has come from being inexperienced in the ring.

He is right when he said, “I didn’t pass the torch. My daughter took the torch”
