NXT saw a new era begin courtesy of Andre 'Cien' Almas

The new NXT Champion Andrade 'Cien' Almas along with Zelina entered in a celebratory mood. Almas, with his new suit and shoes, walked around the ring showing off his new trophy to the NXT Universe.

Zelina told the crowd that they were all witnesses to the beginning of a historic reign. She told the crowd to respect the man, embrace the legend and rise for the champion. Quite a mixed reaction from the crowd, with one half shouting "Si!" while the others were booing heavily.

Almas started off by shouting "I told you". He then screamed "I am the champion" multiple times. He was sarcastically remorseful about injuring Drew McIntyre. The crowd was chanting "What?" at him, which is sad because he's not even a native English speaker. Very classy, Full Sail.

Lars Sullivan was being interviewed backstage about his interview with Roderick Strong. He said he's handsome and can be in the cover of a magazine, but that's not the case for Lars. A rather bizarre promo. This guy has a long way to go.

Killian Dain entered with his own modified version of SAnitY's theme song. The King Of Moustache Mountain Trent Seven started off aggressively, but Killian Dain stopped him in his tracks early. He hit a vicious dropkick which seemingly knocked Seven out.

Seven planted Dain with a DDT to come back but it naturally wasn't enough. Even his seven-stars lariat wasn't as effective as it usually is. Dain hit a Vader bomb for a rather quick win. Killian Dain qualified as the first member of the Fatal-4-Way match.

This was Riott and Sonya's swan song. The crowd was pro-Ruby, but Sonya DeVille started off in complete control with two takedowns and a gut-wrench suplex. Ruby came back and even went for a finisher quick, but she got caught with an ankle lock.

Sonya DeVille used her thumb to rake Ruby's eye, using the No Holds Barred stipulation to her advantage. Though Ruby did come back, the match continued relatively slow paced. Ruby did hit a nice suicide dive.

Sonya DeVille put Ruby in a triangle and even though Ruby reached the ropes, it wasn't a break, so she put Riott to sleep, winning their final NXT bout.

Ember Moon was being interviewed backstage about her recent NXT Women's Championship win. The Iconic Duo of Billie Kay and Peyton Royce interrupted. Peyton Royce pointed out that she wasn't pinned at NXT Takeover and Nikki Cross, thus she deserves a title match. Ember challenged one of them next week and they both accepted at the same time, confused as to which one would accept. That led to some confusion. Ember told them to decide who will face her next week and walked off.

As the press asked which one would face her, Peyton Royce told Billie Kay that she had unfinished business with Ember Moon from WarGames, so Kay agreed. She told Peyton to not beat her up "too much".

Kassius Ohno vs Johnny Gargano - #1 contenders tournament

E
The two superstars put on one of the best matches in NXT TV history

Johnny Gargano was the surprise opponent, replacing Velveteen Dream. The ambience to start this match was incredible. The crowd was split right down the middle. Ohno started the match by throwing Gargano away with ease.

Some nice chain wrestling followed this and the two men then showed off some impressive athleticism when evading each other's moves. Gargano's slingshot spear was caught by Ohno and he was sent outside the ring by his signature elbow.

Ohno hit Gargano's chest with a vicious slap and early attempts by Gargano were met failure. All his shots up till then were weak but a kick and hurricanrana followed by a step-up enziguri put Gargano back in control. He finally landed the slingshot spear on Ohno.

A beautiful reverse sequence saw Ohno hit a brutal-looking senton onto the underdog Gargano. Ohno failed a tope-suicida attempt and Gargano hit a suicide dive into a DDT on the steel entrance. This was met with loud "NXT" chants by the audience.

A step-up enziguri by Gargano followed with a cyclone kick by Ohno. The ever-spirited Johnny Wrestling refused to give up, kicking out at 2. The crowd broke into dual chants for the two competitors.

Ohno got Gargano up for the electric chair but Gargano nearly went for a victory-roll, albeit unsuccessfully. Ohno hit a series of strikes and kicks on Gargano but Johnny Wrestling shockingly kicked out, to a huge pop from the crowd.

Ohno's rolling elbows were met with kicks to the knees and the face. A Hurricanrana transitioned into a Garga-No-Escape and he made the submission specialist tap out in an absolute classic. What a match.
