#1 A Takeover worthy main event on NXT television / overall grade
After disposing of Johnny Gargano at NXT Takeover: Chicago II, Tommaso Ciampa set his sights on the NXT Championship by brutally attacking Aleister Black. Ciampa got his shot this week on NXT and it was an instant classic.
It is an understatement to say that Ciampa and Black beat the crap out of each other. It was a hard-hitting match and the tide turned when referee Drake Wuertz was knocked to the outside and landed on the concrete exposed by Ciampa.
With Drake down, Gargano came out looking for another piece of Ciampa. While he was prying the championship belt away from Ciampa, Gargano inadvertently hit Black with the title belt and that was what Ciampa needed to become the new NXT Champion.
This was truly an amazing match that could have easily main-evented any Takeover special, and now the stage is set for a triple threat match for the ages in Brooklyn I believe.
GRADE: A+
The show was carried by a great confrontation in the open of NXT and closed with an NXT Match of the Year candidate. While it wasn't perfect from top to bottom, the main event definitely weighs heavily into the overall grade.
