What's the story?
NXT UK TakeOver: Blackpool was an incredible show that lived up to the hype that all other TakeOver events had built. The UK brand delivered and brought the WWE Universe some incredible moments, including the debut of the Ring General.
In case you didn't know...
Walter is one of the UK's biggest wrestling stars, both physically and figuratively. Currently, the Progress World Champion, the 6'4" 310 lb behemoth has faced off against a who's who of performers. Kassius Ohno, Keith Lee, Zack Sabre Jr., and more have been taken to their limit by Walter, and he even managed to earn a five-star rating thanks to a hellacious war he had with Sabre Jr. in Pro Wrestling Guerrilla.
It's been rumored for quite some time that Walter had been signed to the WWE for its NXT UK roster. Finally, at NXT UK TakeOver: Blackpool, he arrived.
The heart of the matter
At NXT UK TakeOver: Blackpool, Pete Dunne successfully defended the United Kingdom Championship against the leader of Gallus, Joe Coffey. After an incredible back and forth match, leaving both men battered and bruised, Dunne's celebration was interrupted by Walter.
The Austrian giant was met by a roaring Blackpool crowd and made quick work of Joe Coffey who attempted to interrupt his moment. After that, the two top dogs of the UK scene had a stare off, creating tension that you could cut with a knife.
Pete Dunne's reign looks to be in jeopardy, as he may have found his most dangerous challenger yet.
What's next?
It looks like Walter will be the next challenger for the Bruiserweight's United Kingdom Championship. Pete Dunne has held the title for nearly two years now, and he's already etched his name into the history books with that reign. If Walter is indeed the one to dethrone him, we could very well see Dunne finally make the jump to Raw or SmackDown Live.
