Since Phil 'CM Punk' Brooks made a surprise appearance on FOX's new show 'WWE Backstage' to announce that he would be a guest contributor, numerous wrestlers have expressed that they would like to have a match with the wrestler-tuned-UFC competitor. One man who took a particular interest in CM Punk is Seth Rollins.
Rollins issued challenges to Punk three weeks ago to meet him in the ring, but his response to him was to simply "stop tweeting." Now, after Rollins' appearance this week on Backstage, saying he's there and Punk isn't, and that he would rather move on, it could be continuing to lay the foundation of a potential comeback for the straight edge Superstar. But how should this match be booked?
This match has WrestleMania written all over it. The true build-up for the match should happen after Rollins' heel turn becomes official. Punk is going to be the babyface in virtually any feud upon his return, since the vocal majority of fans have sided with Punk instead of WWE after the messy split in January 2014.
The way it looks, Rollins may have some backup with the Authors of Pain, which explains why they only attacked Kevin Owens and not him during their main event during last Monday's RAW. The trio could become an unstoppable force within WWE, with nobody able to stand up to them until CM Punk appears.
The WWE Universe has continued, for almost 6 years, to chant for Punk. Fans have not only been hoping, but seemingly banking on, Punk making an epic return to the company. Following his loses in the UFC and the fact that he hasn't taken a fight in a year and a half, the expectations have only grown stronger. Even so, there was no way to build up a return for the star, since he was impossible to communicate with and outwardly spoke about having zero interest in a return, but these new developments may be the catapult needed for that to finally happen.
Remember, Punk is under contract with FOX Sports and not WWE. However, if you visit the company's website, his profile is up once again, signaling that this match is a possibility.
Although fans are waiting to see if this match will take place, it must be booked properly and cannot be rushed. If the company wants this to be the biggest success possible, they shouldn't build Rollins heel turn too slowly, as it's already pretty much ready to kick off. Instead, invest as much time and effort possible towards WrestleMania season for Punk's return to the ring against who would be the company's biggest heel, Seth Rollins.
