#2 The next AEW Women's Champion - Britt Baker
It's been very apparent during the first year of AEW that Britt Baker is someone that AEW desperately wants to push. She was in practically every female match in the promotion's infancy and was the first female signed to the company. As her initial pushed seemed to stall, it looked like a change was needed.
Instead of being the bubbly and smiling face, Baker adopted the condescending role model gimmick and leaned into her dentist background. It opened up another side of the performer and it seemed like she'd found her groove. Like the rest of her first year in AEW, however, she couldn't stay healthy. She hurt her ankle, had her nose busted open and is currently out of action with a leg injury.
In any promotion, when most stars are injured, they are taken off of TV. It gives other stars TV time and also a provides a moment of pop and anticipation for when the injured star returns. That hasn't happened with Baker. She's still in the crowd each week on Dynamite and is currently in the middle of a feud with Big Swole. While Baker has maintained her entertaining nature, you have to think that the spotlight could go to someone else in the women's division until she's 100% healthy.
Baker already stated that she'd be back for All Out which is in September. Hikaru Shida seemed like the most logical choice to be AEW Women's Champion. Riho was the inaugural title holder who ceded the title to Nyla Rose. Rose lost the title rather quickly to joshi star.
Without many other established performers in the women's division, it's likely that Shida holds onto the title until Baker is healthy. Then they can finally put the title around her waist. Baker has been one of the most entertaining parts of Dynamite and it's been done for this reason.
