The grandest stage of them all is almost upon us, but there's a final hurdle for the WWE Superstars to cross before they get a chance at glory: WWE Fastlane.
The final PPV before WrestleMania 35 rolls around has the potential to become a game changer for multiple storylines heading into the show of shows. After tonight's SmackDown, we are heading towards Fastlane with 8 matches on the card.
As usually is the case, Brock Lesnar is nowhere to be seen on the card, thanks to his perk-filled contract that allows him to only show up on special PPVs and a handful of Raws. But that doesn't take away from the intrigue that's been built around the PPV.
Let's take a look at all the 8 matches and predictions.
New Champs in WWE! More RIGHT HERE
#1 Rey Mysterio vs Andrade Cien Almas, pre-show
The masked veteran has faced off against the young high-flyer in Andrade on multiple occasions on SmackDown. The WrestleMania rumor mill was running around with the prediction of Rey and Andrade facing off against each other at Mania in a retirement match.
That doesn't seem to be the case now that we will get this match at Fastlane. I'll take Andrade to win as Rey doesn't need a pin against a fresh and promising superstar at this point in his career. This could also lead to a big retirement match at the show of shows, where Rey finally gets his well-deserved sendoff.
Winner: Andrade
#2 Raw Tag Team championship triple threat match: The Revival vs Bobby Roode and Chad Gable vs Richochet and Aleister Black
Soon after their request for release from WWE, The Revival was 'gifted' the WWE tag team titles by the company.
They have since been feuding with a makeshift team of Black and Richochet on Raw, with Roode and Gable being added to the mix.
The fresh newcomers from NXT have been wowing the fans on a weekly basis, and there's an actual chance of them winning the titles at Fastlane. But it would be a lot better if the duo win the titles at WrestleMania to begin a dominant championship run on Raw. The Revival wins this one so that they can drop the titles to Richochet and Black at WrestleMania.
Winners: The Revival
#3 Women's Tag Team Championship: Boss 'N Hug Connection vs Nia Jax & Tamina
This match was speculated by many to be placed on the WrestleMania card after Sasha and Bayley won the titles back at the Elimination Chamber PPV. But with a fresh set of rumors running around regarding Trish and Lita's comeback against Sasha and Bayley at Mania, we're getting this match at Fastlane.
If the company manages to secure Trish and Lita for a one-off match against Sasha-Bayley at WrestleMania, this would act as a huge boost for the Boss 'N Hug Connection and push them to the moon. But for that to happen, the newly crowned champions need to fend off the monsters in Nia and Tamina at Fastlane.
The babyface champions win this one in a hard-fought match, with the villains dominating the better part of the bout, and Bayley/Sasha coming out of the match looking like legit threats to Trish/Lita at Mania.
Winners: Boss 'N Hug Connection
#4 SmackDown Tag Team Championship: The Usos vs The Miz & Shane McMahon
The brotherhood between Shane McMahon and The Miz kicked off way back at Crown Jewel when Shane won the World Cup trophy after The Miz was unable to complete.
The story took an interesting turn when the duo won the SmackDown tag team titles from Sheamus and Cesaro at the Royal Rumble. Unfortunately, the celebration didn't last long as they lost the titles to The Usos at Elimination Chamber, leaving an irate Miz to apologize profusely to a dejected Shane.
The Fastlane PPV is emanating from The Miz's hometown, and even though some fans are looking out for a Miz heel turn, WWE might swerve us here and do the reverse, turning Shane heel for the first time in years.
Shane and Miz lose again, which leads to Shane attacking a distraught Miz in front of his hometown crowd. This will garner immediate heat on Shane and lead to a grudge match at WrestleMania.
Winners: The Usos
#5 SmackDown Women's Championship: Asuka vs Mandy Rose
Touted as being "God's Greatest Creation", Mandy Rose pulled off a huge upset on last week's SmackDown, as she managed to pin The Empress of Tomorrow, Asuka.
This earned her a title shot at Fastlane against Asuka, and we're in for one hard hitting brawl. There's almost no way that Mandy leaves the PPV with the SmackDown Women's title around her waist. Asuka will come out of this match with the title secured in her hands.
Lacey Evans' has been making regular appearances on both brands since the Royal Rumble, and there's a possibility that she will confront Asuka on the SmackDown after Fastlane.
Even though Evans' gimmick is of a sophisticated lady, she is an actual ex-marine and is a legit badass. Pairing her up with one of the most dominant athletes in the world will result in a match for the ages at WrestleMania.
Winner: Asuka
#6 The Shield vs Drew McIntyre, Baron Corbin, & Bobby Lashley
The notorious trio of McIntyre, Lashley, and Corbin have done absolutely nothing of worth ever since they banded together months ago. Their usual shtick consists of attacking Braun Strowman from the back, a storyline which never got an actual payoff.
The team is getting on the nerves of the WWE Universe, and what better way to put an end to the dastardly trio then pitting them against the most dominant team in modern times: The Shield!
After Reigns made a shocking comeback last week on Raw, he managed to convince Dean Ambrose to join him and Rollins again, which led to the match at Fastlane. There's absolutely no way The Shield is losing here, except if Dean turns heel again.
If Dean turns heel and costs The Shield this match, it will lead to a Reigns vs Ambrose match at WrestleMania. My money though is on The Shield winning the match in what could possibly be the final Shield match before Dean departs.
Winners: The Shield
#7 Becky Lynch vs Charlotte Flair
This match was scheduled by Stephanie McMahon on this past week's Monday Night Raw. It was originally for the vacant women's title, but after Ronda came back and demanded her title back, Stephanie was forced to change the stipulation of the match.
Now the match has become a "do or die" situation for Becky, as even after winning the Royal Rumble match, she is forced to win this bout against Charlotte if she wants to be added back to the Mania match.
This is an easy one as an injured Becky Lynch finds a way to somehow make Charlotte tap out after The Queen spends most of the match beating the tar out of her. Becky's exclusion from the Mania main event is out of the question, hence she comes out on top here, kicking off a month-long three-way program leading to the triple threat match at WrestleMania 35.
Winner: Becky Lynch
#8 WWE Championship: Daniel Bryan vs Kevin Owens
This match was the result of Vince McMahon abusing his power and stripping a deserving Kofi Kingston of his shot at the title. Kofi was awarded the match by Shane McMahon after his back to back incredible performances in the gauntlet match and Elimination Chamber.
Vince came in at the last moment to ruin everything for Kofi by gifting the shot to a returning Kevin Owens, just like he did with Charlotte and Becky on Raw. It's clear where this storyline is going from here. Bryan will pin Owens to retain his belt, most certainly after a New Day interference.
The New Day has promised that they will be at the PPV, and this is definitely a sign of things to come during the final moments of Bryan vs Owens. After the PPV, a month-long build can start that will end in a triple threat match at WrestleMania, with Kofi finally winning the big one.
Winner: Daniel Bryan
