The time between The Royal Rumble and WrestleMania is an interesting period as all the talks and discussions head directly towards the Shows of Shows. All fans and experts wait with a fever of excitement for April to come, and in the enthusiasm, pay-per-views like Elimination Chamber just fly under the radar.
There will be talks regarding the bookings and matches of this event, but all would be related to how they can use it for setting up matches at Wrestlemania. We all are focused on seeing who Asuka will face at WrestleMania rather than at Elimination Chamber. Not that it is a bad thing, but considering the captivating structure and the intensity that it brings, it surely deserves more attention.
But, this year, it might mean more than usual as WWE will crown their first ever Women's Tag Team Champions at Elimination Chamber. WWE have taken some crucial steps to hype the event by booking the match inside the Elimination Chamber and by including wrestlers like Sasha Banks, Bayley, and Naomi. With a week before the event, let's try to predict the fate of all the tag teams.
#6 Mandy Rose and Sonya Deville
New Champs in WWE! More RIGHT HERE
Mandy Rose and Sonya Deville have consistently been booked to put other wrestlers over. We often see them interrupting the promos of wrestlers like Becky Lynch or Charlotte Flair to set up an immediate match against them. This usually goes one way as their opponents defeat them with ease and they are just left there looking like a couple of attention-seeking heels.
WWE used Royal Rumble and last week's Smackdown's episode to showcase the increasing heat between Mandy and Naomi. So, we could expect brawl between the two on Sunday, which can result in one eliminating the other to continue their feud. But going by their booking since the last year, Mandy and Sonya don't look like a team that could win the championship.
#5 The Riott Squad
Riott Squad are almost like Mandy and Sonya of Raw. Like their Smackdown counterparts, Riott Squad's job is to put over other Superstars. They did it with Sasha Banks and Bayley last year and recently with Ronda Rousey. Liv Morgan and Sarah Logan are great wrestlers and work really well together, but it seems like WWE aren't very high on them at the moment.
Their chances get even slimmer considering that their leader, Ruby Riott is not even the match. WWE will probably book them as a team who would look to eliminate other teams using typical heel tactics, but would not last long and a win is a long shot for them.
#4 Naomi and Carmella
The WWE creative have literally rally just thrown together Naomi and Carmella at the last minute to fill a spot. The duo has never worked together as a proper tag team before and were each other's rivals till last year. So, the odds of them winning is pretty thin.
The pair will probably start the Elimination Chamber and would probably give a tough fight to their opponents, before finally getting eliminated by Mandy Rose to progress their rivalry further. We could possibly see some amazing and breath-taking spots from Naomi from the top of the pods through the course of the match.
#3 Nia Jax and Tamina
WWE creative have portrayed Nia Jax and Tamina to be a strong and untouchable tag team. They have even taken some bold steps in the last couple of months to show Nia as a dominant heel. Vince McMahon has already given Nia a couple of major victories like winning the Raw championship at Wrestlemania 34 and winning the Battle Royal at Evolution 2018, so the possibility of her winning the first-ever women's tag team championship is pretty high.
For me, they are the dark horses coming into this match who could just run through their opponents.
#2 The IIconics
Since there debut in the main roster, IIconics have been one of the most entertaining tag team in women's divisions. Both Peyton Royce and Billie Kay are brilliant in mics and their promos in which they rant about their opponents are their biggest USP. Although they don't have much momentum coming into the tournament, fans love this duo and will surely back them to win the match.
WWE can book them as one of those coward heels, who would be looking for an easy way to score an elimination and would often try to escape from the tougher opponents like Nia Jax. WWE could pull a surprise by giving them a victory.
#1 Sasha Banks and Bayley
Bayley and Sasha Banks are undisputed favorites to win the match by a huge margin. They have been together in the mid-card since last year without getting involved in any major storyline as a tag team. So, this could be their big pay-off. The duo has cemented their place as one of the best tag teams on the current roster and have shown incredible chemistry on multiple occasions.
Since WWE is introducing a new championship, they would want to give it first to fighting champions who could establish its glory and fame in the WWE universe. They cannot get a better team than 'The Boss and Hug Connection', who are genuinely loved by fans and are two of the best in-ring performers WWE have to offer. They are surely going to win it unless the writers would want to break the team for a possible Wrestlemania match.
