WWE after SummerSlam has taken a completely new step towards regaining its lost glory. After one of the biggest PPV’s in a while, WWE now has enough momentum to carry it past two more PPVs.
However, at Night of Champions, the company could either go ahead and make this PPV a successful and interesting show or begin to nosedive. Plenty of factors can make or break this PPV and the involvement of the McMahons and the corporation storyline in the major matches of the show will determine its success rate to some extent.
With over a month remaining for WWE to start building this feud, let us try and look into the possible match card for Night of Champions 2013.
New Champs in WWE! More RIGHT HERE
1. Daniel Bryan vs. Randy Orton (WWE Championship)
One couldn’t be more over with the WWE Universe than Daniel Bryan right now. With the management completely against Bryan achieving his dream of becoming a champion, support from the crowd has reached a new level. Never would have any top indy star imagined a fan base like this in WWE.
Anyway speaking of his current feud with the so-called PG Corporation, it was confirmed on SmackDown this week that Bryan will face Orton for the title. As far as the match is concerned, expect Triple H and the McMahons to play a role in denying what is rightfully Bryan’s.
2. Alberto Del Rio vs. RVD (World Heavyweight Championship)
No one expected Del Rio to continue his title run after SummerSlam and there was a huge expectation of Christian getting a worthy title reign. Alas, WWE felt otherwise and is continuing to shove more of Del Rio down our throat. ADR’s arrogance has reached new heights after what transpired between him and Sin Cara during their match on RAW.
Ricardo introduced RVD as his new friend, who seems to have become Del Rio’s biggest problem at the moment. With a successful attack on SmackDown, RVD looks a strong contender already. His relationship with Ricardo, however, isn’t very convincing and one can expect Ricardo to turn on RVD to join Del Rio, who badly needs Ricardo by his side now.
3. Dolph Ziggler vs. Dean Ambrose (United States Championship)
Dolph Ziggler faced the Shield in a 3-on-1 handicap match this week after Brad Maddox set it up. Apparently, Triple H ordered this match to be set up after Ziggler’s disapproval of the Game’s actions at SummerSlam. Ziggler was given the treatment intended as he was triple powerbombed by the trio in the centre of the ring.
This clearly is setting up a feud between Ziggler and the Shield and the best match that can be set up between them is by pitching the former against Dean Ambrose. Apart from helping Ziggler get a decent feud, it will bring back some credence for the US title, which has for sometime remained out of action.
4. Big Show & Mark Henry vs. the Shield (Seth Rollins & Roman Reigns) (WWE Tag Team Championship)
The Big Show and Mark Henry have been Shield’s target for quite some time now. Despite their chores with other wrestlers under the command of the management, the Shield have managed to keep an eye on these two monsters. These two haven’t been too calm either and have tried to fight back and lost to the numbers game the trio are known for.
But things can change now as the two monsters have realized their potential as a team. They squashed 3MB on SmackDown and look all set to disrupt the Shield’s plan. Expect these two to put up a strong fight and put the tag team titles in serious jeopardy at Night of Champions.
5. CM Punk vs. Curtis Axel (Intercontinental Championship)
Punk’s feud with Paul Heyman is the best thing happening in WWE alongside the PG Corporation. Punk and Brock Lesnar put up an epic show at SummerSlam and Lesnar’s chair shots still ring through my ear. But with Lesnar gone for now, it is Heyman’s other client, Curtis Axel, Punk has to take care.
Unlike Lesnar, Axel’s having problems keeping Punk down, who is relentless in his attempts to get to Heyman. Axel has challenged Punk to a match for the title on RAW next week and it seems WWE is trying to bring back some legitimacy to the IC Title.
It is, however, important for WWE to keep Punk interested not only at getting his hands on Heyman but also on the title. Punk should give this title importance for it gain some sort of credibility, and hopefully, WWE will be able to provide that.
6. Cody Rhodes vs. Damien Sandow (MITB Briefcase)
Cody Rhodes was able to get the better of Sandow for the second time on RAW this week. Sandow looks visibly frustrated and one can expect him to take up a different approach towards beating his former best friend.
Rhodes has clearly shown that he is the one who deserves the title shot at the moment and the best way to prove that would be by beating Sandow at Night of Champions, when the MITB briefcase is put on line.
7. AJ Lee vs. No.1 Contender (WWE Divas Title)
It is unclear at the moment as to who will challenge AJ Lee for the title. Natalya looks strong after her victory over Bella at SummerSlam. Kaitlyn and Ziggler beat AJ and Langston at SummerSlam, giving Kaitlyn an edge over the others. The best way to solve the challenger problem would be by a No.1 contender contest between the best Divas in the roster.
