WWE Summerslam 2024 is just over a week away, and The Biggest Party of the Summer is generating quite a train of hype. As it stands, the Stamford-based promotion's second-biggest traditional PLE will feature seven blockbuster matches, six of which have a title on the line. Four of those championship bouts could see first-time champions crowned, launching their careers into orbit.
Given the abundance of massive matches on the card, fans are deeply divided regarding which bout should headline Cleveland Browns Stadium. It's not an overstatement to say that each clash features potential main event-level talent, and their feuds have been well-built. So who will go on last in Cleveland, and why? Which bout has the strongest case to headline?
With respect to the two mid-card matches on the card, let's rank the five clashes with the most realistic chance of main-eventing WWE Summerslam 2024.
New Champs in WWE! More RIGHT HERE
#5. Gunther vs. Damian Priest could see a first-time WWE World Champion crowned in the best match of the night
Since winning his maiden WWE World Title at WrestleMania XL, Damian Priest has done an amazing job as World Heavyweight Champion. The Archer of Infamy has proved that he can feud with anyone both on the mic and in the ring, having great matches against Jey Uso, Drew McIntyre, and Seth Rollins. As champion, Priest has been a huge part of RAW's great momentum post-WrestleMania.
At Summerslam, he comes across Gunther, who, according to many fans, is the best wrestler on the planet. Within a few weeks, the duo had built an intense feud on par with any other on the card. Thus, their Summerslam clash, on top of possibly crowning a first-time world champion, could be the best in-ring offering of the night.
An instant classic culminating in a world title change could be too much for any other matches on the card to follow, landing it the main event spot.
#4. Bayley vs. Nia Jax could feature a blockbuster Money in the Bank cash-in
Queen of the Ring 2024, Nia Jax, challenges Bayley for the WWE Women's Championship at Summerslam 2024. Ever since Jax was crowned Queen, she has been involved in a back-and-forth battle for the upper hand, with The Role Model, Naomi, and Tiffany Stratton also dragged into the fray. They will finally battle in Cleveland, with their match offering a unique potential twist.
Stratton cashing in her contract could provide the most exciting moment of the night, along with setting up several feuds beyond the event. This, along with the opportunity to make history as the first all-women's Summerslam main event, could convince Triple H and Co. to put it in the headline spot, ending the night with a massive surprise world title change.
#3. Cody Rhodes vs. Solo Sikoa could end in the long-awaited WWE return of Roman Reigns
Just over a week away from Summerslam, the Undisputed WWE Championship match between Cody Rhodes and Solo Sikoa is expected to be the main event of the show. This is not only due to Rhodes' status as the holder of the oldest and most prestigious world title in the company or Solo Sikoa's status as the leader of The Bloodline.
It is also expected to headline the event due to the highly anticipated return of Roman Reigns. The original Tribal Chief will most likely emerge to confront the man who usurped him and the new family he put in place, potentially eliciting the biggest reaction of the night. What better way to close the show than with the return of the biggest star in business?
#2. Liv Morgan vs. Rhea Ripley is probably the most compelling world title match on the WWE Summerslam 2024 card
Many fans feel Liv Morgan vs. Rhea Ripley has been the best-built world title match on the WWE Summerslam 2024 card. Since injuring The Eradicator in mid-April, the Women's World Champion has infiltrated The Judgment Day, especially insinuating herself into Dominik Mysterio's life. Her escapades with Dirty Dom have become a highlight on RAW, and Ripley's return was the icing on the cake.
As this four-month story infused with more than two years' worth of history culminates in a Summerslam match, few would complain if it headlined. Not only would it be a history-making first women's main event in the show's history, but it would also be one of the best matches of the night.
Furthermore, there could be a twist ending where Mysterio makes a shocking choice between Ripley and Morgan or someone like Raquel Rodriguez returns. The promise of a great match with drama and a memorable ending makes this match worthy of main-eventing in Cleveland, Ohio.
#1. CM Punk vs. Drew McIntyre with Seth Rollins as the special guest referee is arguably the most compelling match on the WWE Summerslam 2024 card
When it comes to compelling long-term WWE storylines in 2024, it's hard to think of one as well executed as CM Punk vs. Drew McIntyre. Kicking off on the RAW after the Royal Rumble, where McIntyre gloated about injuring Punk before writing off the latter with a vicious attack, it has since been the gift that keeps on going.
From WrestleMania to RAW to Clash at the Castle to Money in the Bank, The Voice of the Voiceless has turned The Scottish Warrior's life into a living hell of vengeance. Their animosity has even spilled over to social media, making their match one of the most anticipated of the year. To top it all off, Seth Rollins has been inserted as a special guest referee, adding fuel to an already raging fire.
This feud is well-developed, laden with star power, and full of intensity, making it a fan favorite for the main event of Summerslam 2024.
