WWE WrestleMania 31 is one of the best WrestleMania events in recent history. Despite the questionable build-up to the event, the show is often best remembered for the shocking outcome of the main event.

Heading into the show, Brock Lesnar was set to defend the WWE World Heavyweight Championship against the 2015 Royal Rumble Winner Roman Reigns.

However, Roman Reigns' rise to the top in WWE had significantly polarized the WWE Universe. Reigns' 2015 Royal Rumble victory was met with loud boos inside the arena, in addition to boycotts on social media which threatened to cancel WWE Network subscriptions and cancel WrestleMania 31 tickets.

Fans refused to get behind Roman Reigns prior to WrestleMania, feeling uncomfortable with being "forced" to like a character that had the corporate WWE machine behind it.

Nevertheless, WWE persisted and booked the Brock Lesnar vs Roman Reigns main event for WrestleMania 31. Lesnar was also expected to drop the title to Reigns as Brock Lesnar's WWE contract was set to expire after WrestleMania 31. However, just days before the event it was announced Brock Lesnar had signed a multi-year extension to his WWE contract. This placed the outcome of the WrestleMania 31 main event into question.

After a tremendous physical back and forth match, Brock Lesnar and Roman Reigns were both prone in the middle of the ring. Suddenly, Seth Rollins' entrance music played, with the former Shield member sprinting down to the ring. To the WWE Universe's excitement, Seth Rollins officially cashed in his Money in the Bank contract, making the match a triple threat match for the World Heavyweight Championship.

After becoming the first WWE Superstar in history to cash in the Money in the Bank contract at WrestleMania, Rollins hit Roman Reigns with a curbstomp to become the World Heavyweight Champion for the first time. WWE commentator Michael Cole would iconically describe Rollins' victory as "the heist of the century" in an incredible WrestleMania moment.
