The Money in the Bank pay-per-view is around the corner, coming up on the 17th of June. The pay-per-view is set to feature two Money in the Bank ladder matches, one each for the men and women. The pay-per-view is to be a dual-branded pay-per-view, with four men and four women from each brand for their respective matches.
Over the years, WWE Superstars have won the contract, who then went on to cash it in and achieve glory. The briefcase has also seen its share of failures. Not all of the winner of the Money in the Bank briefcase caught hold of the brass ring which came their way.

The opportunity slipped away from their grasp, while they were left scrambling trying to find their feet. While some were unsuccessful in the cash-in attempt itself, others went on to lose the title later due to their own mistakes. Looking back, however, the Money in the Bank briefcase has helped to kickstart the career of many a star in a main-event level.
In this list, we will be ranking each of the Money in the Bank cash-ins by all twenty briefcase winners from worst to best. Twenty Money in the Bank Matches took place, but there were only nineteen cash-ins as Carmella's initial victory was cancelled due to Ellsworth's involvement.
#19 John Cena (2012)
Shock Value: 0/10
Impact: 0/10
The first person to not win a WWE Championship by cashing in the Money in the Bank briefcase happens to be John Cena. Ironically enough, Cena was not able to successfully cash in the contract, despite the odds being in his favour.
There was little to no shock value, as he announced his intentions of cashing in the WWE contract against CM Punk early on, giving him sufficient time to prepare. He was still about to pick up the victory, but interference by Big Show saw his Championship hopes fall by the wayside.
His inability to win the match meant his cash-in had no impact on the wrestling world, other than fans realising for the first time a briefcase win was not a guaranteed future WWE Championship.

#18 Damien Sandow (2013)
Damien Sandow won the Money in the Bank ladder match in 2013, when he turned his back on Cody Rhodes. The 'Intellectual Saviour of the Masses' had big plans for the WWE Championship contract. He looked to make sure there was no danger when he eventually did cash in, attacking John Cena the day after his Hell in a Cell match with Alberto Del Rio.
Sandow took Cena out with everything he had at hand. While Cena's arm hung at his side, it looked like there was nothing to stop Sandow from winning his championship against Cena.
Instead, WWE booked Cena as a superman once again. Sandow's match against Cena drew critical praise for the star, but in the end, Cena persevered. Sandow became the first person to fail to win the Money in the Bank without any outside interference.

#17 Baron Corbin (2017)
Baron Corbin became the third and last person to fail to cash in the Money in the Bank successfully. In 2017, it appeared as if WWE was gearing Baron Corbin up for a big push. The suspicions and the rumours were confirmed when Baron Corbin won the Men's Money in the Bank ladder match.
He has proven numerous times that he can deliver on big occasions but in this particular situation, he failed in a big way. The loss sent his career downwards on the spiral from which he is yet to recover.
He cashed in the Money in the Bank contract against Jinder Mahal, but a distraction by John Cena from the outside saw him rolled up to lose the match when the Modern Day Maharaja took advantage.

#16 Alberto Del Rio
CM Punk faced John Cena in a match at SummerSlam, where Triple H supervised the bout between the two as the referee. After a controversial decision, it appeared CM Punk had won the WWE Championship to become the Undisputed Champion, but it was not to be.
Kevin Nash attacked CM Punk, something no one had expected or seen coming. Nash hit Punk with a Jack-Knife Powerbomb and left him lying in the middle of the ring. Alberto Del Rio came out, seizing the opportunity to cash in her Money in the Bank briefcase.
Del Rio won the Championship after a kick to the skull, but his reign as the Champion was short-lived. Del Rio played hot potato with the title over the coming weeks with CM Punk and John Cena. His Championship reign had little impact, as he was no more than a placeholder.
You can see Alberto Del Rio cash in his contract here:
#15 Jack Swagger (2010)
Before Money in the Bank became a pay-per-view by itself, it was an extremely prestigious match to win. Taking place at WrestleMania 26, it was a symbol of a match which stars won before making their move to the main-event scene.
When Jack Swagger won the Money in the Bank briefcase at WrestleMania 26, he was expected to bring a sea-change to the WWE scene. When he cashed in the Money in the Bank briefcase against Chris Jericho, it looked like the beginning of something new.
Looking back at it now, it seems safe to say that the briefcase win came too early in Swagger's career. His championship run was less than memorable, as was Swagger's career after he finally lost the championship.
You can see Jack Swagger cash in the briefcase here:
#14 Sheamus (2015)
Sheamus was already an established main event talent when he won the Money in the Bank briefcase in 2015. Roman Reigns won the WWE Championship tournament and was crowned as the WWE Champion. The Big Dog refused a handshake from Triple H, symbolising his refusal to join the Authority after their candidate, Seth Rollins was injured.
Sheamus came out with his Money in the Bank briefcase and cashed in the contract on Reigns. He was able to defeat Reigns and become the Champion.
You can watch Sheamus celebrate here:
#13 The Miz (2010)
The Miz won the Money in the Bank briefcase in a match where no one had expected he would win. The A-list superstar was not known for his in-ring capabilities back in the day and was a hated Superstar.
Randy Orton had been forced to face Wade Barrett for two nights in a row. Nexus had attacked him prior to his match against the Englishman on Raw. Orton was still able to get by with a victory, but he was not ready for what came next.
The Miz came out and cashed in the Money in the Bank briefcase. Although Orton put up a good fight, it was not nearly enough to fend off the Miz. The Miz won, and went on to have a successful title reign, and even defended it against John Cena at WrestleMania.
You can watch the cash in here:
#12 Carmella (2018)
Carmella became the Money in the Bank briefcase winner for the first time in her career under controversial circumstances. Ellsworth's help in her first win meant she had to compete in another Money in the Bank match, which she won by her own merit.
Carmella held on to the briefcase for nearly a year, before she finally cashed it in on Charlotte the SmackDown Live after WrestleMania. The IIconics had weakened Charlotte before Carmella finally made her decision. Heading into the Money in the Bank pay-per-view she is still the champion.
You can watch her cash in here:
#11 CM Punk (2008)
CM Punk faced and defeated each of the opponents at the 24th edition of WrestleMania in the Money in the Bank match. It was an unexpected win, but Punk's stock was rising in WWE at the time. He held on to the briefcase for a while before he was drafted to Raw in 2008.
Edge came out to gloat about his victory the previous night at the Night of Champions. He was attacked by Batista, who pulverised him. Batista was leaving Edge lying in the middle of the ring when CM Punk came out and cashed in the briefcase. He hit Edge with a Go to Sleep and picked up the win and took the Championship from the Rated-R Superstar.
The Championship victory was the beginning of a meteoric rise for Punk to the top.

#10 Dolph Ziggler (2014)
Back in the days, when Dolph Ziggler was the 'Show Off' he had a lot to prove to the world. He won the Money in the Bank briefcase in 2012, and it looked like it was the start of something great for him. Looking back now, it was only one of the many stop-and-start pushes Ziggler received while with the company.
Alberto Del Rio had won a match after a lot of work to retain his title. The crowd was loud in their displeasure of the Champion, and cries of 'We want Dolph' could be heard throughout the stadium.
The Show-Off answered the calls of the fans and made his way out to cash in the briefcase. He won the Championship and had a successful reign until WWE suddenly stopped his push yet again.

#9 Rob Van Dam (2006)
Rob Van Dam won the second-ever Money in the Bank Match and decided that he would cash in the briefcase to challenge John Cena at ECW One Night Stand. The crowd was a raucous one, completely against Cena.
RVD was the overwhelming favourite of the night, and he was able to please the crowd by defeating the hated Cena. The Championship run was cut short due to violations of the wellness policies, but the win at One Night Stand remains one of the legendary moments in WWE history.

#8 Daniel Bryan (2011)
Daniel Bryan was a huge Indie darling when he came to WWE. Fans did not expect WWE to book him in a manner befitting his experience and quality. In the beginning, their assumption proved correct. Slowly, however, WWE's style of booking for Bryan changed.
Bryan was given a better push, and he was able to win the Money in the Bank match in 2011. After a match between Big Show and Mark Henry, Big Show became the new champion. Mark Henry did not take kindly to losing the title and attacked Big Show after the bout and left him lying in the middle of the ring.
Bryan took advantage and made his way out to the ring. He cashed in the briefcase and did not even hit the Big Show before pinning him for the win and leaving with the World Heavyweight Championship.
You can watch the cash in here:
#7 Edge (2007)
The second time that Edge had a Money in the Bank contract in his hand, he had not earned it in a Ladder Match. After Mr Kennedy won the briefcase, Edge challenged him to a match for the briefcase which was won by the Rated-R Superstar. He used it like only he could.
The Undertaker had emerged from a Steel Cage match against Batista as the World Heavyweight Champion. Tired and fatigued, the Phenom was no match for the Ultimate Opportunist after he had also endured punishment at the hands of Mark Henry. Edge hit him with two spears to come away with the World Heavyweight Title in the second of his two successful cash-ins.
You can see the cash in here:
#6 CM Punk (2009)
A year after his first Money in the Bank win, Punk repeated his feat two years in a row. He won the Money in the Bank briefcase yet again, overcoming the odds.
He joined the SmackDown brand and chose a time to take advantage of a fatigued Jeff Hardy to pick up the World Heavyweight Championship. Jeff had won a ladder match at Extreme Rules, but could not take long to enjoy his victory.
Minutes after his victory, Punk cashed in the contract and hit Hardy with two Go To Sleeps, and pinned him. The cash in was the beginning of a heel turn by Punk, which added to his character development.
You can watch the CM Punk face Jeff Hardy in a rematch here:
#5 Kane (2010)
In the first match of the 2010 Money in the Bank, Kane was able to defeat all the other opponents to win the briefcase. The Big Red Machine was not one to waste any time.
Rey Mysterio defended his World Championship against the All-American, Jack Swagger. His victory was short-lived as he was not able to celebrate. The Big Red Machine came down and became the star to cash in the Money in the Bank briefcase in record time.
A chokeslam from Kane meant it was all over for Rey, as he lost the title.
You can watch the Kane enter the Money in the Bank here:
#4 Dean Ambrose (2016)
Dean Ambrose won the Men's Money in the Bank match in 2016. The Lunatic Fringe had been left at a disadvantage after the Shield split up. While Roman Reigns looked secure in his progression to the top of the card, Seth Rollins had come into the limelight. Ambrose had done little, but winning the Money in the Bank briefcase put him in prime position to change that.
He did not waste any time and used it the same night on Seth Rollins after the Architect won the WWE Championship. He would continue his reign with the Championship after the draft, as he took the Championship over to SmackDown Live.
You can watch the cash in here:
#3 Randy Orton (2014)
Randy Orton won the Money in the Bank contract in 2014, when he overcame every other star who came in front of him during the bout.
The cash in would be in typical Viper fashion taking an opportunity which was handed to him. Daniel Bryan had won the WWE Championship in a match against John Cena. Triple H counted the pinfall before turning on Bryan and laying him out inside the ring.
He called Orton down to the ring, where the Viper cashed in the briefcase, won the Championship and joined with Triple H to form the Authority.
You can watch Randy Orton in the Money in the Bank ladder match here:
#2 Edge (2006)
The first time that the WWE audience got to see the Money in the Bank briefcase in action, was a special occasion. John Cena had somehow managed to survive an Elimination Chamber match against Shawn Michaels, Kurt Angle, Carlito, Chris Masters, and Kane. He could barely stand to celebrate when Vince McMahon came out to announce that Edge would be cashing in the Money in the Bank briefcase.
Edge cashed in successfully and defeated John Cena with a spear, which Cena could not defend himself against. This would set the trend for future cash-ins, as the Money in the Bank contract had never been used before.
You can watch Edge cash in the Money in the Bank here:
#1 Seth Rollins (2015)
Seth Rollins won the Money in the Bank match to a great ovation. After splitting up from Shield, Rollins had been successful. He joined the Authority and was billed as the future of WWE.
The cash in by Rollins was the most epic in proportion as it did what no one else had done before. He used it to cash in at WrestleMania. To add to the intensity, he did not wait till the match between Roman and Brock was over to cash in but cashed it in the middle of the bout to make it a Triple Threat.
Although this appeared to be a bad decision at times, Rollins was able to emerge from the contest as the WWE Champion. Till this date, there has never been a cash-in on such a big scale.
