WWE Hall of Famer Edge is considered to be one of John Cena's greatest ever rivals.

The two WWE icon's rivalry on Monday Night RAW ramped up a level in the summer of 2006. Edge had defeated Rob Van Dam and John Cena in a triple threat match on RAW to become a two-time WWE Champion.

This led to Edge defending the WWE Championship against John Cena in the main event of SummerSlam. The event was special as it emanated from John Cena's hometown of Boston, Massachusetts.

A pre-match stipulation stated that if Edge were to be disqualified, he would lose the WWE title. Regardless, the Rated-R Superstar utilized brass knuckles to leave the biggest party of the summer as the WWE Champion.

The two WWE Superstars from Monday Night RAW were considered to be the two top stars to emerge from the Ruthless Aggression era. The two stars both captured their first World Championships at WrestleMania 21 and continued their ascension to superstardom in WWE.

The Animal was able to leave the biggest event of the summer victorious, but it wasn't just John Cena's pride that was injured. The former WWE Champion sustained a legitimate herniated disk in his neck during the encounter. This forced him to miss three months of ring time later that year.
