Just when fans thought they'd seen the last of Brock Lesnar as a champion, 'The Beast Incarnate' shocked the world by winning the WWE Championship in 10 seconds on SmackDown's FOX premiere.
Cain Velasquez tried, but couldn't dethrone 'The Beast,' as he tapped out to the champion at Crown Jewel. Rey Mysterio will challenge Lesnar for the WWE Championship at Survivor Series in a No Holds Barred match, but it's doubtful the masked Superstar will walk away with the title.
WWE wouldn't take the title away from 'The Beast Incarnate' until the most opportune time. Nor would they take the title off 'The Beast' unless they found the appropriate Superstar to do so.
As we near the end of 2019, the new year brings new possibilities, and since anything can happen in WWE, speculation is already high. Which Superstars are destined to wear the coveted WWE Championship around their waist?
Here are predictions for the next five superstars to win the WWE Championship.
__________________________________________________________________________
#5 John Cena
Many may have chosen Cain Velasquez to get his hands on Lesnar and the WWE Championship before anyone else, but numerous reports of his knee injury being worse than expected put the former UFC Champion's status up in the air.
We can't expect Rey Mysterio to win the WWE Championship, especially in a No Holds Barred match that favors the unscrupulous Lesnar. Another feud with Seth Rollins might not go over well with WWE's fan base and that leaves John Cena as a realistic option to dethrone Brock Lesnar.
Randy Orton issued a WrestleMania challenge to John Cena via Twitter, and Cena responded to the challenge by saying that he's eager to get back in the ring. Cena also recently confirmed that he plans on being at WrestleMania 36. We can't take these tweets for granted and WWE just might go ahead with this match for WrestleMania 36.
Cena needs one more reign with the WWE Championship to break Ric Flair's record of 16 world title reigns. Having him beat Lesnar at the Royal Rumble or some other event on the Road to WrestleMania and defend the WWE Championship against Orton at the Showcase of the Immortals would be a fantastic choice.
#4 Randy Orton
We have seen this feud multiple times in the past, and since both Randy Orton and John Cena have reached legendary status with WWE, there’s no need for them to play face & heel, if they face off at WrestleMania 36.
WWE could follow the same formula as the Orton vs Triple H match, which took place at Super ShowDown earlier this year. With Cena becoming a record 17-time World Champion, and him doing a limited schedule because of other commitments, dropping the title to Orton at WrestleMania 36 would be the right thing to do.
Orton is a 13-time world champion in WWE, and it could be a chance for Vince McMahon to thank him for his loyalty toward the company. WWE announced on their Twitter handle that Orton signed a multi-year deal with the company, and it looks like he'll end his career where it started.
#3 Seth Rollins
It’s safe to say the Seth Rollins’ days as a babyface are soon coming to an end, as he is getting the same reaction Roman Reigns once received from crowds. WWE reportedly edited the crowd reaction during Rollins' segment on last week's pre-taped episode of RAW from Manchester. Rollins commented on the situation and called fans fickle for the reaction.
WWE must pull the trigger on another Rollins heel turn, as it's the only way to save his character from becoming stale. Going by this prediction, Rollins could turn heel on Randy Orton and take the WWE Championship away from him after he wins the 2020 Money in the Bank Ladder Match and cashes in.
As we have seen in the days of The Authority, Rollins & Orton have good chemistry with one another. Having Rollins take the WWE Championship away from Orton could open the doors for more memorable moments between the two Superstars heading into the future.
#2 Kevin Owens
Kevin Owens shocked the world when he became the Universal Champion in 2016, but after his reign came to an unfair end at the hands of part-timer in Goldberg, Owens hasn't held a world championship since.
Owens has had multiple failed attempts at the WWE Championship against AJ Styles & Kofi Kingston, but his recent face turn has sparked some life back into his WWE career, and we could see Owens stunning his way to his first WWE Championship reign.
Seth Rollins' heel turn would leave Kevin Owens as the only top babyface on the Red brand, and the company would have no choice but to pit the two Superstars against each other.
Owens can make up for all the missed opportunities by taking the WWE Championship away from Seth Rollins and have a lengthy reign with the title as the top star of RAW one more time.
#1 Drew McIntyre
Drew McIntyre made his WWE debut as Vince McMahon’s chosen one, and the future looked promising for the young Superstar. Unfortunately he was lost in the shuffle and found himself as part of 3MB along with Heath Slater and Jinder Mahal.
If someone told us that a member of 3MB would become a future WWE Champion, we would’ve chosen McIntyre by default. While Jinder Mahal found a stroke of luck becoming the WWE Champion in 2017, McIntyre found himself in NXT.
Going by the list, 'The Scottish Psychopath' should be the next in line get a run with the WWE Championship. After Owens finishes his feud with the heel Seth Rollins, he finds an even tougher challenger in Drew McIntyre.
Those who saw their match on this week’s episode of RAW can imagine what these Superstars can do to each other with the WWE Championship on the line.
