Gunther is the reigning WWE World Heavyweight Champion and arguably one of the best heel superstars in the Stamford-based promotion. The 37-year-old has been a workhorse champion since capturing the title.
The Ring General recently retained his World Heavyweight Championship against Finn Balor and Damian Priest at Saturday Night’s Main Event in a Triple Threat match. The upcoming year will be an interesting one for the promotion. Being the World Heavyweight Champion, The Austrian Anomaly will defend his title against various challengers. Heading into the vital year, there are reports of multiple significant matches being pitched for Gunther.
In a shocking twist, RAW Superstar and former champion Sheamus might face the 37-year-old star at Royal Rumble 2025. The Celtic Warrior might even put his career on the line to earn the title shot against Gunther in a title vs. career bout. While the two had an intense feud over the Intercontinental Championship some time back, Sheamus was unable to capture the title. This would drive the Irishman to take down Gunther now, with the stakes raised even higher for the World Heavyweight Championship.

This week on the red brand, Ludwig Kaiser and Sheamus were involved in a heated brawl, which might ultimately lead to a showdown between The Ring General and The Celtic Warrior. However, this is speculative for now.
Massive matches are being pitched for Gunther at WrestleMania 41
WWE views Gunther as among one of the biggest stars in the coming years and the Triple H-lead creative team has been working tirelessly to establish The Austrian Anomaly as one of the faces of the promotion. Amid that, multiple reports have indicated that the Stamford-based company has been considering major stars as his WrestleMania 41 opponents.
Two such names in question are John Cena and Goldberg – both superstars will end their careers next year. Sources have reported that the World Heavyweight Champion is among the top stars being seen as one of Cena’s last competitors during his farewell run.
Goldberg returned during WWE Bad Blood 2024 and had a heated altercation with Gunther, who disrespected him in front of his family and Da Man warned him that he was next.
However, this is hypothetical at present and fans will have to wait and see what Triple H has planned for The Ring General heading into an important year.
