Many fans were wondering why John Cena was advertised for the February 27th edition of SmackDown Live and the reason was confirmed by Cena tonight on Monday Night Raw.
Cena will return to SmackDown Live tomorrow in an effort to find a spot on the card for WrestleMania 34, after his latest effort at the Elimination Chamber was denied.
Fans were ecstatic once Cena teased calling out The Undertaker for WrestleMania 34 for Raw, but the 16-time World Champion was told that facing The Phenom would be “impossible.”
No details were given explaining why the match would be impossible, but it could imply that The Undertaker may officially retire, but that is pure speculation.
Taker vs Cena is the match that everyone has expected to be announced for WrestleMania 34 and would coincide with the rumor that Cena has something big planned for the show in New Orleans.
The Deadman seemingly retired last year after losing to Roman Reigns in the main event of WrestleMania 33, but the rumors continued to point to another return as WrestleMania 34 drew closer. The Undertaker returned to WWE programming back in January for the 25th Anniversary of Raw, but never addressed his rumored retirement nor did he express a desire to wrestle again.
Even with Cena returning to the Blue Brand, there isn’t any opponent that would make sense for him.
AJ Styles is heavily favored to retain the WWE Championship at Fastlane and will face Shinsuke Nakamura in New Orleans. The only other options would be against wrestlers like Bobby Roode or Dolph Ziggler, but that would not match the rumor regarding John Cena's match, from Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter.
This is more than likely just a diversion until The Undertaker returns to WWE programming, so they can set up their match. Then again, that’s just pure speculation for now.
