In today’s edition of SmackDown, Team Rhodes Scholars officially broke up. Both Rhodes and Sandow together spoke to Booker T and told him that they weren’t going to wrestle as a team anymore. The reason however remains unknown.
This came as a shock to me and I feel to many other fans because they were an extremely good team. Their popularity level increased a great deal as a team and I for one expected them to take over Team Hell No as the Tag Team Champions. This latest decision from WWE comes as a bombshell to all those who were expecting them to become the champions.
Now that they have split, let us look at how they will fare as a singles wrestler and who these two wrestlers will possibly feud.
New Champs in WWE! More RIGHT HERE
Cody Rhodes, after sporting a mustache, gained a lot of response from the fans. Even The Rock had a few words for his new style and he can thank his mustache for the popularity that he enjoys now. Rhodes also gained the spotlight for a while during the Royal Rumble when he fought with his brother Goldust. The crowd enjoyed when the two brothers fought each other and this could possibly be a reason for Rhodes Scholars to break up or maybe WWE has other plans. Anyway, I would love to see a Goldust vs Rhodes feud leading to a possible match at Wrestlemania, with father Dusty Rhodes as the special guest referee.
Speaking of Sandow, I guess he will be pitched against a few mid-carders and WWE will slowly give him momentum after Wrestlemania. He won’t be in a constructive feud until Wrestlemania as the card seems full already with the inclusion of the proposed brother vs brother match between Cody and Goldust. Sandow, later into the year, will be either made to contest for the United States Championship or the Intercontinental Champion with the former being the more possible outcome.
Irrespective of their future, I feel the WWE could have found a better way to end their team as it turned out to be one of the most promising tag teams of the present generation. Along with Team Hell No, Rhodes Scholar went a long way in ensuring the revival of the tag team division with their comical yet impressive performances. Let’s hope Sandow and Rhodes have a great singles career that gives due respect and regard to their talent.
