Rob Van Dam, born Robert Alexander Szatkowski, is an American professional wrestler of Belgian and Polish descent. Raised in Battle Creek, Michigan, he began his wrestling career in 1990, competing for independent promotions across Michigan. Two years later, he joined World Championship Wrestling (WCW) as Robbie V, a moniker assigned by booker Ron Slinker.
Van Dam's stint with WCW came to an end in May 1993, after which he joined All Japan Pro Wrestling (AJPW). Upon the expiration of his contract with AJPW, he signed with Extreme Championship Wrestling (ECW), where he first rose to prominence by achieving several significant milestones. Following ECW's closure, Van Dam further solidified his legacy in major promotions like World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE), and most notably, in Total Nonstop Action Wrestling (TNA).
