After his return to WWE at Money in the Bank, Rob Van Dam has turned out to be the perfect performer that WWE needed today. With great matches against Chris Jericho and the Triple Threat No. 1 contender match against Randy Orton and Christian, one thing became clear – RVD has a lot of gas left in his tank for his present run. Most of us after looking at his stint at TNA felt that RVD had lost his skills with age, but his present WWE matches have put out any such opinion whatsoever.
Sadly, WWE hasn’t been able to utilize his huge return to the company as they have failed to put him in a decent feud at SummerSlam. It looked as though RVD will not have a match at SummerSlam, but now rumours suggest that WWE officials are considering giving him a match in the pre-show. There are plans that RVD will face Antonio Cesaro at SummerSlam during the pre-show.
After nearly getting to be the No. 1 contender for the world title, RVD now has been relegated to the pre-show which must be depressing for all RVD fans. RVD surely deserves something better than the pre-show, but the company is too concerned about their top two titles. But should fans really complain? Is it wrong to put RVD in a pre-show?
RVD has returned to WWE on a contract very much on the lines of Jericho’s contract. His main work now at WWE is to put over talent while providing a great match to the fans and this is exactly what will happen at SummerSlam. RVD will have a great match with Cesaro, but will most likely end up on the losing side. Though this might not look great at the moment, it is the right way for the future of WWE.
Also, in a packed card like SummerSlam, RVD’s sudden inclusion into the main card will do more harm than good. Though he will have a match, there is very less possibility that it will last longer than a few minutes. As a RVD fan, I would love to see him wrestle longer and the pre-show is the best place for that. Fans will get to see RVD wrestle for longer against one of the best workers of the company in Cesaro and with RVD in the pre-show the company can expect increased ratings.
