What’s the story?
With 2017 coming to a close, Cody Rhodes reflected on his success and declared 2017 his first “seven-figure year” as an in-ring performer.
In case you didn’t know...
The Former Intercontinental Champion left the WWE to work in the independent circuit in the summer of 2016 and would up his stock in a major way by joining the Bullet Club.
2017 was a big year for the American Nightmare as he fought Kazuchika Okada for the IWGP Heavyweight Championship at the G1 Special in the USA and won his first world title via the ROH World Championship.
The heart of the matter
Rhodes appeared on Busted Open Radio and said that his financial success reached its highest point to date in 2017 despite being formerly employed by the WWE for the past decade.
“This has been the first seven-figure year I've ever had and it blows me away that it happened, so on that end, for my family and well-being, that part has been the best.”
Rhodes also discussed his current reign as the ROH World Champion and said that his legacy as the Intercontinental Championship in WWE doesn’t compare to world championship status.
“I look at a time, my WWE Intercontinental Championship run as my favorite thing I ever did because I got to change the belt and I got to be involved in a couple of WrestleManias with that in the picture, but this time, now, has completely passed it by, blown it away.”
What’s Next?
Rhodes will defend his world championship against Dalton Castle at the ROH Final Battle pay-per-view on Friday, December 15.
Rhodes next big match is scheduled for Wrestle Kingdom 12 where the ROH World Champion expected to put his title on the line against Kota Ibushi.
