Despite competing in a Bloodline Rules match, Cody Rhodes overcame the odds and retained his Undisputed WWE title against Solo Sikoa at SummerSlam 2024. The American Nightmare received significant assistance from the returning Roman Reigns, as the Original Tribal Chief destroyed Solo, allowing Cody to execute the Cross Rhodes.
Now that SummerSlam has concluded and Cody Rhodes remains the champion, let's discuss three potential directions for Dusty's son after the Biggest Party of the Summer.
#4. A rematch against Roman Reigns could be next
New Champs in WWE! More RIGHT HERE
Roman Reigns and Cody Rhodes have unfinished business to settle, as the American Nightmare dethroned the Head of the Table at WrestleMania XL. SummerSlam marked Reigns' first appearance since WrestleMania, where he interrupted the Undisputed title match. However, he only attacked Solo Sikoa due to his previous actions and did not confront Rhodes despite their unresolved story.
During the SummerSlam press conference, Rhodes expressed his desire for a rematch against Reigns, stating that he is entitled to one. Despite the initiation of the Roman-Solo rivalry, a trilogy match between Cody Rhodes and Roman Reigns could be next in line.
However, if their title rematch takes place, Solo Sikoa and his Bloodline members might interfere and cost Reigns the match, just as the OTC did to Solo at SummerSlam.
#3. Randy Orton finally turns heel post-SummerSlam
Randy Orton made a short cameo appearance at SummerSlam 2024, arriving during the match to take down Tama Tonga and Tonga Loa with Kevin Owens by his side. However, fans have been eagerly waiting for the Viper to strike Rhodes and eventually turn heel to get an Undisputed title match.
With the American Nightmare seemingly done with Solo Sikoa, it could finally be the time for the Legend Killer to strike Cody and turn heel on him. This could set up a match between them either at Bash in Berlin this month or at the Bad Blood 2024 Premium Live Event.
#2. Cody Rhodes could announce a no. 1 contenders match on SmackDown
With no current No. 1 contender for the Undisputed Championship, the American Nightmare could soon find himself in a No. 1 contenders match on an upcoming episode of SmackDown. This match will determine who will be the next star on the blue brand to face Cody Rhodes for the Undisputed title.
One surprise name that could emerge is Andrade, who has been performing exceptionally well on Friday nights for the past few weeks. He even secured a victory over Carmelo Hayes in a brilliant match on last week's SmackDown. WWE could pull a shocker by giving Andrade a title shot against Rhodes.
#1. Cody Rhodes could aid Roman Reigns against Solo's Bloodline
Roman Reigns returned at SummerSlam and inadvertently aided the American Nightmare against Solo Sikoa. However, with Reigns currently having no allies to counter Solo Sikoa's numbers game, Cody Rhodes might step in.
The Undisputed Champion could form a temporary alliance with the Original Tribal Chief on the blue brand, assisting him in his battle against Sikoa's faction. This temporary alliance could continue on SmackDown until the OG Bloodline reunion takes place and the Usos rejoin Reigns.
