Roman Reigns has clotted himself as one of WWE’s biggest megastars in recent years. His presence still enchants the WWE Universe, and the fans eagerly anticipate his return after being taken down by the Bloodline on SmackDown last month.
However, despite his prevalent run, Reigns is no longer tagged as WWE’s top star, as the PWI 500 list for this year is led by the current Undisputed WWE Champion, Cody Rhodes. The rankings are based on an evaluation period from August 1, 2023, to July 31, 2024. This weighs several critical criteria, including win-loss records, championships won, quality of competition, significant feuds, prominence within a wrestler’s promotion(s), and overall wrestling ability.
Based on these factors, PWI determined that Cody Rhodes merited the top spot, reflecting his impressive accomplishments during the evaluation period.
In contrast, Reigns, who ranked #1 in 2022 due to his historic Universal Championship reign and noteworthy victories, slumped in the rankings last year, landing at #2, while Seth Rollins took the top spot.
On the other hand, Cody Rhodes was ranked 10th last year, but this year, he made a significant leap to claim the #1 position.
Will Roman Reigns get a major rematch soon?
Roman Reigns is anticipated to return to SmackDown's Season Premiere next week. Given that he had cost Solo his chance at the Undisputed WWE Championship at SummerSlam 2024, many assume a similar outcome with Roman aiding Cody again.
One of the major questions surrounding Roman Reigns' return is whether he will finally get his Undisputed WWE Championship rematch against Cody Rhodes.
The American Nightmare dethroned Reigns at WrestleMania XL, and since then, Reigns has yet to acquire a rematch for the title. Many wonder if Roman's return will signal a title shot at the upcoming Bad Blood 2024.
However, it seems unlikely that WWE will rush into a rematch between Reigns and Rhodes at Bad Blood. WWE has a history of saving high-stakes matches for bigger platforms, such as the Royal Rumble or WrestleMania, which could be the stage where this highly anticipated rematch unfolds.
Moreover, Roman Reigns still has ongoing storyline threads within the Bloodline, particularly the tensions with Solo Sikoa and the potential for a Bloodline Civil War leading into Survivor Series WarGames. This major angle could further delay any immediate plans for a title rematch.
While a rematch between Rhodes and Reigns is certainly on the horizon, WWE is clearly protecting this bout for a bigger event, making it unlikely to happen in 2024.
