Roman Reigns to be replaced by 39-year-old star as WWE SmackDown's biggest star? Potential trade explored

Roman Reigns is one of the first names that was mentioned within the WWE Universe when the company announced opening a transfer window. With RAW moving to Netflix, there is no doubt that The OTC will move to the red show. It is the same logic that WWE used when Reigns was sent to SmackDown in 2019 as the blue show moved to FOX back then.

With The OTC moving to RAW, it leaves the 'biggest superstar' spot vacant on Friday nights. Interestingly, the Stamford-based promotion brought back Drew McIntyre on WWE TV on the December 2nd, 2024 episode of WWE RAW. Triple H can move The Scottish Warrior to the blue show as Roman Reigns' replacement.

McIntyre turned heel during his feud with CM Punk. However, once he is moved to SmackDown, The Scottish Warrior can turn babyface, and resume his former character. The OG Bloodline's move to RAW will ensure McIntyre isn't buried in Roman Reigns' shadow and is able to reinstate his dominance in the ring as babyface.

Furthermore, it is possible that Gunther will move to SmackDown as well while Cody Rhodes will move to RAW. McIntyre can dethrone The Ring General, which is a huge accolade for any babyface.

Roman Reigns took on The Deadman in the main event of WrestleMania 33. This was a high-profile match, but it did not live up to what the fans were expecting. The bout also received mixed reviews from critics and fans.

During an episode of his Six Feet Under with Mark Callaway, The Undertaker revealed that he was disappointed for not being able to give his best during the WrestleMania 33 match.

"The match still bothers me. Not that I lost, but I was just—I stayed a little long. I stayed a little long. I didn’t have enough for him that I would have liked to have given him. At that point, my body was shutting down. Yeah, I shouldn’t have been in that match, but, anyway."

The Undertaker and Reigns teamed up at Extreme Rules 2019 and defeated Drew McIntyre & Shane McMahon.
