WWE Superstar Drew McIntyre has been absent from television since Bad Blood. The Scottish Warrior suffered a brutal injury at the premium live event.
The 39-year-old locked horns with CM Punk in a Hell in a Cell match to open the show. The two arch-rivals pushed each other to the limit and seemingly ended their feud at WWE Bad Blood. The contest ended with The Second City Saint flattening his opponent with a GTS, having a chain wrapped around his knee, and scoring the win.
During the match, CM Punk struck Drew McIntyre's head with a toolbox, causing a severe injury. The impact left the former World Heavyweight Champion busted open. McIntyre needed 16 staples to close his wound after the match ended.
Drew McIntyre finished the match despite significant blood loss. In a recent Q&A, PWInsider's Mike Johnson confirmed that the RAW Superstar's injury was genuine, and the medical attention he received post-match at the premium live event was not a work.
"[Drew McIntyre staples a work?] 100% not a work," he responded. [H/T: PWInsider]
Former WWE writer believes Drew McIntyre could be the most underrated star in the company
The Scottish Warrior has impressed many with his current run as one of the best heel characters on Monday Night RAW.
On a recent edition of Wrestling with Freddie, former WWE writer and Hollywood personality Freddie Prinze Jr. claimed that McIntyre could be the most underrated star on the roster. He pointed out that the Scotsman is underappreciated for his run as the WWE Champion during the pandemic. Prinze Jr. praised Drew for his portrayal of the heel character and mic work.
"Since the pandemic, I think he may be the most underrated wrestler on the WWE roster. I don’t think he’s ever gotten the props he deserved for being a COVID champion, which, in hindsight, is a much trickier and more complicated thing than I think anyone realized at the time. His ability to turn that character into this selfish heel that is willing to permanently injure someone, like, he turned into such an a*****e. And he’s been so good on the mic, better than he’s ever been," he said. [H/T: PWMania]
